Seafrost 110 vac marine refrigeration condensing unit and Grunnert cold plates
I had a 110 vac Grunnert system on board when I bought this vessel. It was old. Noisy and cranky and my HVAC guy told me the best solution was to replace the entire condensing unit and compressor. I bought this Sea Frost unit in May 2011 and had it installed. Then there were more problems with the cooling circuit(mostly grass in the intake) and the old expansion valves were deemed not to be working properly. I replaced those with a Sporlan for the freezer and and a Parker(now also Sporlan) for the refrigerator. Then the Northern Lights 8.5 KW generator died a violent and permanent death which left me with the choice between replacing it at over $15K or removing the 110VAC refer system and replacing it with Solar panels and a twelve VDC system for about $3800.00. I chose the latter option and so this system is available. I tried to trade it ... morein to Seafrost for a discount on their 12 VDC system but they were very reluctant and in the end I just put on a Frigoboat system. It, too, has cooling water problems but this is due to junk in the river water just like the 110 VAC system more than anything else. The two large plates are filled with low temp coolant for a freezer, the smaller one is for the refrigerator's range. I do not know if there are any pinhole leaks in the cold plates. I did not have it running long enough to really see any loss of refrigerant evidence. It was on and off for about 3 months but during that time the refrigerant was replaced or topped off twice when new components were added. If you are looking for a new compressor. EV's, or if you want t augment your cold plate capacity(even for an engine driven system using 134a) This could be a really good deal. I have tried to sell this group of components at 1/2 new cost through usedboatparts- dot- com for more than a year without success and I really want them out of my garage before I go cruising this summer. Help me out here folks. They are really too heavy to estimate shipping but I will agree to take the components to the UPS store nearby
