You are bidding on a South Bend 1140 Oreno-Matic Free Stripping Fly Rod Reel with its original box and purchase receipt from February 5th. 1961. This reel is in excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition with a couple of very light scratches visible on close inspection. The auto wind is very smooth and the spool spins quickly and smoothly when the retrieve lever is depressed. This reel was either never used or only used very lightly. The box has a water stain on the top and on one side. The other three sides are in good condition and would display very nicely on a shelf. I will always combine shipping on multiple purchases. Purchased when I was in college over 35 years ago and it has accounted for its share of bass and bluegill in the years that I used. it. South Bend "Oreno-matic Free Stripping Automatic" Fly Fishing Reel--Original Box
This is a vintage South Bend“Oreno-matic 1140 Free Stripping Automatic Fly Reel” in the original box and with the original“Reel Repair Stations Guide. Reel surface shows the normally expected scuffs and scratches associated with ordinary light use. Internal springs and mechanisms appear to be taut and in good working order. And reel features smooth silent winding, fold-away precision control trigger, and stainless steel line protector. As you can see from the photos, the original box is completely intact, and is stiff and clean, though understandably shows some signs of its age. I have left the original fly line on for the collector, though I would advise replacing the line for the fly fisher who plans on using the reel. This will serve as an inexpensive introductory reel for the beginning fly fisher, a potentially useful reel for those who ... moremight otherwise have difficulty operating a manual fly reel(e.g. arthritis) or a handsome addition for the collector. This reel works but needs to be cleaned. And its screw( missing slotted head might be repiarable by someone with more knowledge than me. Cosmetically it has 70% of paint; if used as a static wall mount or repaired for use, it would pair nicely with an older model glass rod. The reel measures 3" diameter x 2" wide. And at 9.3 ounces it should balance out any vintage heavier glass or bamboo fly rod.

This is a vintage South Bend Oren-O-Matic No. 1140 model B automatic fly reel. It is used and seems to be fully functional. I don't know too much about these reels. When you wind up the side plate. And then press down the release lever, the spool spins back quickly and smoothly. I assume that is how this reel is supposed to function. The Super-Sized and Zoom-Able pictures are of the reel which show it quite well. A good reel ready to collect or fish alike. I TEST MY REELS AND TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE THEY ARE AS DESCRIBED.
