Used Vintage Drucker 511B Six Cell Centrifuge As-Is for Parts or Repair
Found at an estate sale. This vintage Drucker 511B Six Cell Centrifuge is missing one suction cup but does have all 6 aluminum test tube holders. Its exact age and history are unknown but it was probably manufactured 20 or 30 or years ago, perhaps even before that. The electric motor runs smoothly, the bearings are good, and the remaining 3 suction cups all still make a good seal. The interior is clean. The missing suction cup is of the snap-on type. To test this centrifuge I put a plastic bottle cap under the metal foot to keep the centrifuge level. This is a powerful model and if it's not level it will start to vibrate and walk. Its aluminum test tube holders are stamped TDC No. 109. Although the centrifuge runs fine without them, when they're inserted they scrape a little as the centrifuge is starting to spin up and then start ... moreto scrape again, this time rather alarmingly, at full speed. I'm not sure if that's because they're empty or if perhaps they're supposed to have rubber O-rings around their lips to lift them just a little bit in the center aluminum holder plate. For this reason this centrifuge is sold as-is for parts or repair. Shipping will be by UPS Ground with no additional handling charge. Washington state residents pay 9.5% state and local sales tax.

Originally this would have come with copper test tubes. Tool is unmarked. Manufacturer unknown. Tool attaches to a bench then an amount of milk to be tested was put into the tubes and spun. History of tool/tester: Until the 1890s. Dishonest farmers could water down their milk or remove some cream before selling it to the factories because milk was paid for by volume. Honest farmers, as well as those that produced naturally rich milk, were not being compensated fairly. Key to this process is that everything in milk except the fat dissolves in sulfuric acid. The fat floats to the top. The centrifuge ensures complete separation with no bubbles in the fat, and the fat content can be measured using the graduations on the test tube and knowing the initial amount of milk used. The separator is made of cast iron with brass containers which can be attached for spinning milk. It works like a centrifuge, separating the cream from the milk to test the quality/ richness of the product. It is in very good condition, especially given the age. Only 3 glass stem measuring units. base cast iron, copper inserts that hold the glass stem milk containers are in good shape, some dings on the bottom of them, but glass inserts go in and out smoothly. base color is red with gold color on the bottom, it is worn off, but some still remains. Crank runs smoothly on worm gear, mounting screw works well. Does what it is intended to do.

Name/Title Milk Tester- cast iron body and brass cups About this object Milk testing was introduced in many national dairy industries to combat malpractice on the part of dishonest farmers who watered down their supply to gain higher returns. The most widely used test in Australia was the Babcock Method. Devised by Stephen M. Babcock from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The testers used centrifugal force and a chemical agent(sulphuric acid) to separate the fat and water contents of milk. Once the sample was separated, a reading of the fat content would be made from the graduations on the side of the test tube, and a percentage determined. The testing of the butter-fat content of milk as first made compulsory in 1930 with the passing of the Milk Act. Substantial improvements were made at this time and in the ... morefollowing year with the establishment of the Milk Board which facilitated the implementation of widespread testing. I removed the Bottom Panel and cleaned/inspected the Interior and everything is in good order. Unfortunately the metal column which holds the rotor has totally broken horizontally and renders it functionally useless- except on display as a retro-design. Or parts. The horizontal crack, as seen in the photos, is so perfect it's not obvious that it's damaged and therefore is very suitable for display. On the other hand. It still has many useful parts- motor, on/off speed control, rotor, brass shields, and electrical cord. VINTAGE HUSTON BROTHERS DAIRY CENTRIFUGE
I have an old Huston Brothers centrifuges that was used in the dairy industry. The front plate is brass. Has Huston Brothers, MAN'F'R'S, Chicago Ill. It is right at 9" tall. It works great. It does have a lot of paint, stain and varnish on it. The brass front has scratches. Looks like they tried cleaning it up. I think the scratches would buff out. Thank you for looking.
