But it appears to be a sign that might have mounted on an Oil Display Island Rack. I believe I purchased this from a dealer at Carlisle or Hershey Penn. years ago. A very hard to find sign, I've only seen a couple of these, and this one is a survivor. The size is 13" x 18-1/2" This auction is only for the quaker city sign. Other items shown in photos, are in seperate auctions. Pennsylvania oil was the"go to" oil for most of the old/original petroleum dealers. It appears that most all of the companies wanted their business associated with Pennsylvania oil. I've been collecting for over 30 years, and I've seen advertisments on ... moremany different companies products relating to Penn. Oil. The colors on this sign are bold, not faded in the slightest. Visually, this sign is a killer piece. A large oil can, with raised letters(Embossed) stating"Quaker City" The can is White and Orange, with Blue letters, and highlites. In the center line of the can, is a city skyscape, with tall buildings, a church, clock tower, water tanks etc. Four small mounting holes on the corners. These holes have not been enlarged, or offset by some larger bolt mounting to a structure. The Gloss is wonderful. The Embossing is bold, and easily felt and seen. SERIOUS COLLECTORS! EXTREMELY RARE AND SOUGHT AFTER HIGH GRADE VINTAGE GULF OIL CO ITEM This is 1950s Era. NOS- Displayed Only GOOD GULF Gas Pump Sign GUARANTEED AUTHENTIC! This is a Rare and Original GULF OIL Vintage Metal/ Porcelain originally intended to be mounted on the upper section of a 50s style Gas Pump. In better than Near Mint condition. The field of the sign is exceptional. Only real sign of wear is, at the mounting holes, and some slight aging around the edges. The lettering and Gulf Logo are slightly raised. Pictures show closeup details. These signs are nearly impossible to come by. And especially in this condition. This one was used for a very short period, as a decoration in a country store in North Carolina, which just was liquidated. Closeups show complete details. The sign itself is single sided as far as Lettering, but ... moreis full porcelain on both sides, and the letters and Gulf Logo are raised. Measures 11 3/8" Wide x 8 1/2" Tall. It is tapered from top to bottom. And the bottom measures 10 1/4" All very visible in the photos. This one comes from a country store/ station in North Carolina which recently went to estate sale. Brightly colored field and lettering including the GULF symbol. It has a nice shiney and smooth surface. Does not appear to be used very long. Close-ups of both sides are shown. Early Eagle Gas Can and an Eagle Oil Pump
Up for your auction consideration is a nice. Older Eagle oil or kerosene can, and as a throw in, an Eagle oil pump. Both have been used. On the oil can, as you can see from the pictures, there is some rust, paint loss, and dings. The pump is in a bit better shape but, again, has been used. Please look at the pictures to judge the item. The paint on the can is a great, brilliant red and perfect to fit into your collection of vintage petroleum items. You are bidding on a vintage EAGLE No.66 Oil Can. I believe it is made of brass but I am not positive. It has some dings and scratches. This is in used as found condition so it should benefit from a good cleaning. This had oil in it and it worked fine when I tested it. I dumped the oil out of it. Tiny little Texaco gas pump plate/sign.Dated 4.30.Says REG U.S. PAT. OFF. in bold letters.Measures only 8 3/4" tall by about 7 1/4" wide. It has a little damage as shown in the photos.And described above.It has little cracks in the porcelain,and over time rust has settled in these cracks.The rust has given the sign a wonderful patina. The porcelain colors are still fairly bright. I believe this sign was once mounted on a visible pump of some kind. At the top is a small spicket on the pump; it was used to dispense kerosene into small throated containers such as vinegar jugs or whatever the consumer had to carry it home in. Kerosene back in the day was used for lamps. Lanterns and also for heaters to keep baby chicks warm in cold weather. Most generally these tanks were kept in the back room of the store to keep the kerosene smell away from customers. Kero Boy" logo riveted to pump base. It says Model 715. No. 124650, WM. M.
