Lincoln Composites Compressed 250 Bar 3600 psi Hydrogen Tank Cylinder Fuel Cell
This tank was briefly used in an experimental hydrogen fuel cell vehicle. The vehicle has been stored in a University basement since about late 2007-2008. The tank is in very good condition. This is a Type 4 tank rated for 250 Bar = 3600 psi. It measures 18” in diameter and 51” long including the valve on the end. This includes the mounting brackets shown in the pictures as well as a high pressure transducer. The tank is due for inspection and re-certification in 2015. If you require a larger or higher pressure Tank please contact me. I also have a 350 Bar 5000 psi Dynetek tank measuring 23.7” in diameter and about 42” long including the valve manifold. This is a Type 3 tank and can store approximately 4.26 kg of H2. This too was used briefly in a fuel cell prototype vehicle. 4-Cell PEM Fuel Cell 60W Hydrogen-Air (no oxygen needed)
This large PEM fuel cell is a module that was made for use in a rack that housed multiple units so that hydrogen and cooling was shared. This module contains four separate fuel cells. I can find very little technical information on the individual modules but from searching on the internet it would appear that they are either 41W or 60W. You could probably call the company(Avista) to obtain the specifications but suffice to say they are rather large as this type of fuel cells go. These are hydrogen-air cells which means that they obtain the required oxygen from the air. Hydrogen-air cells can be run on oxygen for added efficiency but it is much easier to simply use air. The air that provides oxygen is also used to cool the cell and take away excess water vapour, the visible metal plate is covering the duct that channels air through the body ... moreand over the membrane, there are vents visible at either end of the module. To use the fuel cell you will need hydrogen gas. An easy gas to obtain by electrolysis or from any bottle supplier. You will also need some sort of air flow through the module, a blower fan would do nicely. As it is, each end of the module has two cells wired in series which will produce about 1.2-1.4 volts, all in series it will be about 2.6V which can be used directly or stepped up using a boost module to get higher voltages. Easy to disassemble and clean. If you want it as parts then the elements could even be re-purposed, there is a fair amount of platinum and other precious metals in there too. The case is very robust, there are many small springs that provide strong and even compression over the membranes. Dimensions are 43mm x 171mm x 267mm and weight is a little under 1.5kg. This auction if for a single all aluminum fully enclosed aircraft fuel cell or fuel storage tank. There are two of these units available. They were manufactured by Marshall of Cambridge Aerospace LTD. Their component number is M.D957.0769/9. Date of manufacture is Aug 93. Their dimensions are 58" wide x 162" long x 63" tall. With a sloped bottom. There is an inspection hatch which can be unsealed for visual inspection of the tanks internals. Tanks have twin 1 1/2" top mounted vent tubes. Tanks also have twin side port panel that will accept various sizes of bolt on output ports. Currently one port is blanked off and the other is 2" Both of these units were out of a large commercial aircraft and would have previously held Jet A fuel.
