This is a tripod made by Keuffel& Esser for use with a Brunton pocket transit/compass. It is solid brass so not to effect compass. There is a small bit of damage on one of the legs at top(See photo of head) Easy repair or use as is. Also missing two screws at top of legs. I have not polished it up but would clean up beautifully(Some people like original patina) It is 16 1/2" when collapsed legs are approximately 52" long when extended. Comes with original cardboard tube with K& E label. Has hook for plumb bob.

Nice Antique Brass Surveyor's Transit, 1860-1890
This is a nice. Mid- to late 19th Century brass surveyor's transit(sometimes called a theodolite) It measures 4.0 inches from the top of the brass base to the top of the graduated ring scale. It features a bubble level, spring loaded leveling screws, and two graduated scales. It is predominantly brass, in good condition. The sight, level and a-brackets are finished in olive drab paint with black trim and the large outer scale is steel. I am unable to find a manufacturer's mark, but the transit appears to be either U.K. or U.S. no later than 1900. The optics are fully functional as is the sighting level. A small bubble level on the base appears to be without fluid.

Details listed below so please keep scrolling down. I have listed several by themselves and was finding it was taking an extraordinary amount of time. And so I decided to do some large groupings. I’ll do the best I can to list what they are. You can go back to see my completed listings(My eBay user ID is livelifefullyeveryday) to see some detailed drawings of others I’ve posted. These are from the same grouping, from the same Man, Chas W. Bale. My parents found them in their 100 year old home/farm and have asked me to help them sell them and get them to people who will appreciate them. The old man who lived there and did ... morethese was named Chas. W. Bale. He did all of the blueprints as far as we can tell. And lived in Portland, Oregon. He did some for Willamette Iron and Steel. Detroit Shipbuilding Engineering Company, Great Lakes Engineering Works and several others. So far we have seen blueprints of Ships’ cross sections. Some light house tenders, some tug boats, stern wheels and ships boilers, and lists of the different ships boilers and whatnot. Some are of some logging equipment, and some miscellaneous. I am not a historian. Or a blue print collector so I don't know the official terms for conditions of them. From what I can tell most of these in this grouping are various Large Ship’s engines. Boilers and arrangements of piping, parts, equipment and mechanical engineering stuff. They are of BIG machinery and many from Specific named Steamers, ships hulls, dredges, stern wheel boats and more. Have fun bidding and good luck. They do come from a non smoking home. The transit is marked: Schwencke Kirk& Co. New York. Measures 11" wide and is 7 1/2" tall. Comes in the original wood box that is in good solid condition. Leather strap is missing. It transit seems to be complete. Lenses are clear and intact. Focus adjustment works fine. No cross hairs in the optics. Bubble is fine on the level. We took many pictures so you can get a better look at it. Being this old it will require some cleaning up so we will leave that up to you. The only thing we did was to clean the glass on the compass.
