You are bidding on a very well maintained 150 Ton Lorain MC8150 Crane. This crane is being sold as a conventional lattice boom crane only(Not the Tower) Very low hours as it was used for the erection of precast concrete panels and was only used on specialty projects. The crane is stored indoors during the winter when not out at the jobsite. Just turn the key and it starts right up! About 200' of Boom. Vintage Lorain Moto Crane Nameplate 1940's 50's Art Deco Motif Cast Aluminum
This solid cast aluminum nameplate is pretty much the icon of the truck crane industry. I am not an expert on Moto-Crane or Lorain. But I do know it's an old name and one of the bedrock machinery manufacturers who built the machines that built the US. The charm of this piece transcends a few generations. A rough estimate of age would be post WWII. Late 1940's into the 1950's, which puts this piece at what 60 or 70 years. The Thew Shovel Company, established in the late 1800's in Lorain Ohio on the Great Lakes made Lorain Moto Cranes, and like most of the old line manufacturers they got bought up and agglomerated along the decades by an ever emerging construction business. Moto Cranes were around for a long time and there are still a lot of them out there earning a living every day. This auction is for a vintage boom angle indicator. Off what we think is a Thew Shovel Lorain Moto-Crane, probably post WWII. It has most of the original paint on it. Arrow moves freely. Be the first on your block to mount this onto your fireplace mantle or in the train room- Moto Cranes were used a lot by the rail roads for track maintenance and repairs. This is an authentic piece of Americana and fairly unusual. Would make a great gift to a crane or machinery collector and an interesting conversation piece.
