Nicholson, to manufacture steam engines. In 1913, Charles N. Vicary of the Thew Shovel Company of Loram, Ohio, joined Ball, and the firm began to concentrate solely on the building of steam shovels. The name was changed to the Erie Steam Shovel Company in 1922, and in 1927 to the Bucyrus-Erie Company, after the company merged with Bucyrus Company. This catalog presents a comprehensive overview of the Type B Erie crawler steam shovel. It provides descriptions and pictures of the traction steam shovel. Clamshell crane, crawler crane, trench shovel and railroad ditcher(owned by Chicago, Burlington& Quincy Railroad) plus tables on the Type B’s work capacity and specifications. LG WROUGHT IRON FIREPLACE SHOVEL w HEAVY BRASS HANDLE. C. 1800s This is a large wrought iron fireplace shovel with a heavy cast brass decorative handle. Circa 1800 to 1825, or so, and American in origin. Shovel is 30" long with a 7 5/8" long by 5 1/8" wide shovel blade made of sheet iron with folded corners that were riveted together, as pictured. The heavy cast brass handle is 5 7/8" long and 1 7/8" in diameter at the ball top. Condition is excellent with great patina from age, and it is still useful today if you have a fireplace. This 6 1/4" long. 7 T. oz. coin silver sugar shovel has an interesting provenance for those interested in such things. It has double markings. One is for H.I. Sawyer of Hartford, Connecticut. The second is A.T. Gage with a single die bust pseudo hallmark. John McGrew in his work on the subject. Associates this single die with Sawyer, and references it in conjunction with an A.J. Gage, possibly in New York City. Which of these two originated the piece and which retailed it. And what the relationship between them was is not documented. The scoop is copper-clad in back and is made of a nonferrous grayish metal, quite possibly tin, with the handle being wrought iron.
