The handle appears quite new with very little scorching, the metal of the holder is clean, the screws have been oiled to prevent rusting etc Dimensions: handle length 170mm. This type of holder is designed to hold type assembled into words to be stamped onto a surface. It is a combination brass holder with a carbon steel backing plate and spring loaded plate set into a hardwood handle. It is strong and secure. This standard spring type holder is a 4" holder although measuring it shows it to be just shy of 4 inches. This refers to the amount of type it can hold left to right. The type is then tightened into the holder by means of a thumb screw mounted at one end. As well as a spring loaded plate at the top. The backplate is made of steel and allows proper line of sight to determine the line on which the type will be printed. These typeholders are fully adjustable to take type from 8 point to 36 point. The metal backing plate as well as metal spring plate on top do show some signs of rust from non use which ... moreis typical of this type of product. Thumb screws are fully functional and serve to hold the type firmly in place from both top and side. The handle appears to be epoxied onto the brass frame with a heat resistant epoxy. The brass frame can be heated in order to imprint foil onto leather. It is in good working condition. Shipping to lower 48 states only. Self-centering brass type holder for bookbinding
This is a 4" self-centering(super-rapid" brass type holder. Used for bookbinding, original purchased from P&S Engraving in 2004. I used in a few times from 2004-2007, but it's been in storage since then as I'm no longer actively bookbinding. All the screws work smoothly, and it holds type with an iron-or brass-grip. This style of type holder retails new from Talas for $467.50. Feel free to contact me with any questions about this item!

On offer here is a Bookbinder's finishing tool for holding type for gilding? Measuring internal 40mm long by 5 mm high by 7mm deep. Overall outside length 45mm plus brass threaded screw. The handle is 75 mm long. There is a little damage to the back corner of the type holder but this does not affect the holding of the type as it does not go through. into the space.
