Vintage Leatherworker Bookbinder Tool Doorstop 50 LBS - UNCOMMON - Industrial
UNCOMMON ITEM. This came out of a bookbinding factory. It has a slight curve to the bottom- I am guessing it was used on its side in a rocking motion by moving the axe type handle up and down- best guess. At 50 lbs. it certainly wasn't swung like an axe. Uncommon item- never saw another like it. Great conversation piece- doorstop- use your imagination. Stands upright without rocking. 26" tall. Weighted end is 8" x 6" x 3 1/4" All good. For auction is another stunning and incredibly scarce bronze bookbinder's die. Perfectly useable but has some wear and minor surface scratching. There are also some knicks around the edges but nothing too serious. The back is marked"leipzig" This piece is deeply engraved in the style of the German arabesques of the mid 16th century! It measures 3 1/4 inches by 2 1/4 inches and is a heavy 3/4 inch thick. Once again I'll throw caution to the winds of fate and offer this plate at NO RESERVE and shipping is free to USA bidders only. For auction is this lovely bookbinders plate in the style of a Grolier Arabesque. This bronze plate is nearly identical to one that I sold a few months ago except that it is slightly smaller in size. It measures 4.5" x 3.75" and is 1/4" inch thick. Ive included a picture of the impression on green harmatan goat skin to show the detail! Its a beautiful tool and in near fine condition. The back of this die has some damage which I've tried to show in the photos. But it doesn't affect the design or its functionality. Set of Bookbinder Letters (Complete Alphabet ) and Numbers Missing the 8 no res
Here is a nice set of bookbinder tools. There is a complete set of letters and an incomplete set of numbers. There is 2.3,4,5,6,7 plus& and AE. With the I and O you can do most numbers but the 8 is missing. I suppose you can double stamp a 3 and reverse it for the second mark to get an 8. All the stamps are around 7 1/4 inches long. The letter height is just under 1/4 inch. 15/64ths to be exact. They all look to be in good working order. A couple of the wood handles are a bit toasted near the tips but still tight. Offered with a low start and no reserve.
