The stepper motor may be applied to any axis of a CNC-ready Sherline machine that has stepper motor mounts already installed. It is designed to work with Sherline inch machines only at this time. The linear motion controller has its own keypad and built-in computer. It comes with its own power supply. A#23 frame size stepper motor, connecting cable and complete instructions. An 8-pin mini-DIN cable can be used to connect multiple units in a"daisy chain" The units can signal each other to work in sequence, allowing multiple movements to be accomplished without the use of a computer or master CNC controller. They can also be used in conjunction with existing CNC controllers. The controller is user-programmable with two separate programs of up to 40 operations(blocks) each. In each block you can control distance, direction, speed and whether the program pauses or proceeds to the next block. The linear controller can also be"daisy chained" with Sherline's rotary controller(P/N 8700) to achieve combinations of rotary and linear movement in sequence. This makes it easy to set up for relatively sophisticated operations like cutting gears without having to know anything about CNC programming beyond what is entered from these simple keypads. This is a Paxton/Petterson CNC lathe that I have reworked. I removed the original controls and installed new one so that this could be ran from mach 3. I have added a Digital readout for the RPM. The spindle on/off is controlled by the switch on the front. Speed is controlled with the Knob on the front. The computer is a Dell 760 running Windows XP. Shipping will have to be freight. Up for sale is a Sherlone Model 5000 Lathe and all the things shown. not being an expert lathe user I have done my best to describe the unit. Both motors are smooth operating. The smaller motor that moves block up and down track works most of the time but sometimes it will not move block. I think it needs adjustment there. The worm gear underneath is un broken and not bent. The worm gear motor works well and switch works fine. One of the electric cords has been repaired as shown in one of the pictures. Sherline CNC 5400 mill with upgrade screws kit + Geckodrive G540 + power supply
Up for sale is a used Sherline 5400 cnc mill with some upgrades. First the good part; the mill works as is and I cut some parts on it. So all the parts shown here work as is. Now the bad part; The couplers between the steppers and the screws is not ideal. I've only seen this type of coupler in a few photos online. Not sure who made the conversion kit. But it's not a sherline(I think) part. They do work, but there is no backlash compensation in the way the couplers work. I"think" you could modify these to be better and maybe even eliminate the backlash, but I think it would be better to just get new coupler parts w/ some sort of backlash compensation. If you're handy and have some tooling, I would think you could make something better than what's on it. I bought a bigger/better mill and have no use for this one so ... moreI never set about fixing it. The power supply is just a box someone built but it works fine. There's room in it for the G540 I'm including. There is a 6ft cable for the G540 to PC. There is an upgraded set of X& Y screws and bearings along w/ the required drill and tap to modify/install them. All of the steppers have DB9 connectors installed to work w/ the G540. There are a few collets and tool holders and a jacobs chuck w/ closer. Basically what you see is what you get(except the can of acetone. The 2 boxes of vinyl gloves and the foamcore: I'll carefully pack and insure this. I'm putting in some guess on the weight and I'll pickup the difference if it ends up costing more to ship it. I'll likely bolt the base to a piece of mdf or plywood and screw that to the box to keep it from rattling around in a box.
