Bridgeport Mill Head On Index Base Milling Machine
This is a great little milling machine. It cuts as good as a Bridgeport but is about half the weight. The head is a Bridgeport vari drive head with R-8 spindle. The base is from an Index milling machine. It comes with the vise shown. The motor is 2hp 3 phase and has a VFD on it so it runs on 240 volt single phase power. Everything works great on this machine. This is a great way to have Bridgeport power and still be able to move it. I weighs around 1000 lbs so you need to be able to move something that heavy. This Head has been in use fitted to the overarm of my Astra Horizontal Mill as the Vertical Milling element and has given great service for several years but now time to move on so it has been re-united with its collumn. Although the Quill Drilling Lever is missing( the correct size offset ring spanner was used) it is in good order except for two cracks in the motor casing. These were there when I bought the machine and have not caused any problems at all. The previous owner couldn't remember when they appeared, shown in the last 4 photos. All Gears work and there are no broken internal Gear Change Levers although ... moreone of the external gear paddles had to be replaced. The motor is the 1/3 HP 3 Phase Type and has proved a very capable machine. Postage may be a problem as the unit weighs over 30 Kg but splitting into two parcels may be the way. I have a Van Norman Number 12 horizontal/vertical Milling machine for auction. It has an extra Bridgeport M Head on the overarm. Both milling heads work fine. I have a set of 5V collets for the Van Norman head and one collet for the M head but those are relatively easy to find. It is a very strong and versatile combination with the two milling heads. Both are three phase motors. The table has a motor drive in the long direction. This item is local pick up only. I have an engine hoist and I can load it into a low trailer. But I cannot arrange crating and shipping.

I believe that the overarm is meant for a Hardinge horizontal mill but I am not sure(this is what the seller claimed but I was going to attach the head directly to my Clausing's overarm support- probably with the aid of an intermediate plate) The equipment was cleaned and painted by the previous owner and it does have a few marks/chips from flying chips during use(I'm guessing that is the cause since I didn't get a chance to use they were not caused by me) Some of these marks were covered with ... moretouch-up paint. This is not the heald machine company from Worcester Ma. E.M. Heald machine works from Springfield MO. SN 1179 Table: 34"X7 5/8" Tee slots: 9/16"X 2" centers. Power feed to X axis thru gearbox on side of machine. Note: drive shaft is not hooked up but parts appear to be there. 9 brown& Sharpe taper in vertical& horizontal spindles including drawbars& about 99% complete. Missing drive belts and small shaft for tilting motor when changing belts is not there. Linkage is there that attaches to motor plate and probably used the knee crank to move when shifting. The handles for changing the X axis feeds are not installed. Shown in photo's, missing knob. ... moreThe helical gear in the housing bolts up to the X axis saddle and drives the X axis screw. The drive is a nice old sterling mechanical variable speed 3 phase. 220/440V. Peckerhead missing but otherwise all there. I believe you can still get parts from sterling for any drives they built. Machine was partially disassembled when we got it sitting in a shed. So some surfaces are rusty, especially the dials& the handles for gearbox. Generally the ways are pretty good and the screws do not seem to be badly worn. The spindle turns ok, but I noticed a tight spot that I can turn up to each way like the spur gears in the transmission get tight from crap in the teeth or something like that is happening. I did not look into it any further. Tooling included: All# 9 Brown& Sharpe. Collets: 1/8" 3/16" 1/4" 5/16" 3/8" 7/16" 2) 1/2" 5/8" 3/4" Drill chuck: craftsman 5/64"1/2" with key Universal engineering Z collet chuck with 3/8" collet. Please look at all pictures. I'm selling my Bridgeport Series 1 variable speed milling machine. I recently upgraded to a series 2. So I had the head on this one rebuilt with all new bushings and bearings(paperwork available upon request) This is a 3 phase machine! It has a 1.5 hp motor(3 phase) and a 9" x 42" table along with a Mitutoyo two axis DRO. We just painted it with 2 part epoxy so it looks really good. All of the gibs and ways are tight and clean. SAIMP BRIDGEPORT STYLE J-HEAD MILLING MACHINE, MADE IN ITALY, LOTS OF TOOLING
For sale is a SAIMP vertical milling machine. SAIMP machines are very hard to come by. But extremely solid. A pure Bridgeport J-Head copy, this milling machine has a lot of tooling included. The machine is in good overall operating condition. The feeds in the heads all work, sometimes it's a bit finicky, but there's no sign of significant wear or gear damage, or anything like that. It really just needs a good cleaning and an oil change. The table and ways are very clean, and a very solid Kurt Vise is included. The machine is an inch machine, which is great as most are metric. Data plate reads Made In Italy, 1959. Included Tooling(see pictures) Kurt Vise Measuring instrumentation 4x collets Collet Wrench 2x Drill Chucks 15 VG condition assorted end mills Table Clamp Set-affixed to side of mill Two height raising spacers for the head ... more2x boxes of assorted tooling-everything you would need.
