Powermatic Wood Lathe Model 45, Heavy Duty Vintage Machine, 4 Speed
This auction is for an old heavy-duty Powermatic wood lathe. Model 45. I don't know the year of manufacture, but they don't make them like this anymore! The lathe is 4 speed. The belt tension is relieved by moving the front lever. Allowing the turner to select different pulleys to change speeds. The lathe comes with a tool rest base, a 12" rest, a 6" rest, and a 6" faceplate. There is a ball bearing live center and a small fixture that came with the lathe but I don't remember what it is used for. I keep the ways and the moving parts of the base lightly lubricated with WD-40 and they work smoothly. The lathe runs well and is in good working order. The motor is wired for 110 v. I own a guitar repair shop and have used this lathe to turn custom handles for some of my tools. I turned the rasp handle in the photo out ... moreof Box Elder burl. I relocated to a smaller shop last year and now this lathe is more in the way than useful to me. So it has to go. Local pickup only, this sucker is HEAVY and will require 4 strong backs to lift it. THE LOCKING LEVER WHICH OPERATES THE BANJO HOLD DOWN CLAMP IS NOT ORIGINAL. BUT DOES WORK AS INTENDED. THIS PART COULD EASILY COULD HAVE A TURNED HANDLE INSTALLED ONTO THE THREADED PIECE, I JUST NEVER TOOK THE TIME TO DO SO, AS IT WORKS FINE AND LOCKS TO THE BED AS INTENDED. POWERMATIC Model 45 Gap Bed Variable Speed Wood Woodworking Lathe
Up for sale is this Powermatic model 45 wood lathe. This lathe has a single phase 220V motor with the optional variable speed drive. This is the gap bed model which has a swing of 16 inches. The unit runs but will need to have the cord replaced as it is frayed. The condition of this is good but I see the tool post has been brazed and the cabinet door needs to be straigntened. The variable speed drive works but might need adjusting. Also included is a chip shield that bolts to the back of the lathe. I have a maintenance& parts manual that goes with this. This is no cheap China lathe. This was made in America and is 400+ pounds. These lathes are very desirable for their quality build.

American castings rule. This machine taught thousands of high school/ vocational students across our beautiful country. Infact this machine was used in the Oyster Bay/ East Norwich school district before the shop classes ended. Its been cleaned and used but not abused. two face plates included. Powermatic Woodworking 20 1/2" Swing Lathe Model 90
Up for sale is a Powermatic 90 lathe. This is the model lathe they used in high school. This lathe was made in USA in 1980 and bought by a homeowner hobbyist. The ways go all the way to the head stock. There is no gap. This runs on 220 and is single phase. I converted this into a 20 1/2" swing.It has a NEW tail stock and banjo from a Powermatic 3520b. I had a riser block made up in a machine shop to bring up the head stock to match the tail stocks height perfectly. This upgrade cost about $1600. This lathe had very little use when I bought it about 2 years ago.It is in great condition. This lathe is for pick up only. I accept pay pal
