Vintage 10 inch Delta table saw and 6 inch joiner
My father brought this from Chicago when we bought our farm in 1946 and we have used it all along. We added the casters about 50 years ago. It is well equipped. The saw portion is serial#32-7929. Includes 3 various blades with a 5/8 bore, wrench for blade removal, molding head with 6 sets of cutters(including those in the head) both the saw and molding head plates, blade guard and anti-kickback plates, moving table guide, special metal push plate I had made to insure accurate cuts, an exhaust tube, and the miter gauge. It is a tilting table type and has a plywood filler panel. The joiner is 6 inches wide and has an extra set of 3 sharp blades and a special blade holder I made to sharpen them on a surface grinder and is serial#33-5925. This saw is by Delta from Milwaukee before Rockwell bought them and just about ruined the company. Both the ... moresaw and joiner are cast iron, heavy weight stand, ¾ HP double ended motor that is 110V. Condition is very good, it has been in an inside shop the whole time. DELTA VARIABLE SPEED BENCH JOINTER 6 INCH Model 37-070 Extras
Obviously it's not a long bed floor model but for a bench model it works good. Only thing broke are the 2 adjust handles on the fence. They can be purchased for about 15 bucks each but I'm more than making up for it with 3 new sets of knives plus I just installed the set in the machine. I have used it since but for about 3 or 4 boards. Get yourself a small wet stone to take out small Knicks and make the knives last longer. One of the down sides of this and most bench jointers is the tables get oxidized. Then there is friction and the wood is hard to push through. A while ago I removed the tables and ran them gently through my big drum sander. They are now flatter than I think original. Then I hand sanded down to 1000 grit then polished on my buffer wheel. Then coated with(non wax) top coat which is a wood workers machine top sealer/ ... morecleaner. Prevents rust on steel tops like a table saw and prevents oxidization on aluminum/zinc tops like this. Check out the pictures. There is no wax to contaminate your wood but it's totally smooth and flat and no friction. For shipping I am removing and wrapping up the 2 tops and the fence The fence totally squares up with the top. I use a 6 inch machine square and it's perfect. I'll mark the 2 pieces right and left when facing the working side or front of the machine. Except for the 2 fence handles that an ex gorilla employee broke everything else is perfect. Because you really don't need to crank down hard on those handles I've just used pliers gently and it's worked fine so I never ordered new ones. Otherwise for the money it's a great machine. I installed a 4 inch dust collection chute because I try to control dust in my shop and this particular unit only had a rectangular opening which dumped the chips out to the left of the machine.
