Yates American No. 1 Jointer 16" Blade Width 1920's Cast Iron 5 HP three phase direct drive motor Bed is about 7 feet long Has a 5 foot adjustable fence Jointer bed has cutout for cutting rabbets. This jointer has a lot of features that some jointers don't have like the direct drive motor. 4 blade cutter head with 4 1/4" cutting diameter, rabbeting edge, and the rear table can be adjusted to make hollow or spring joints. This jointer is in working condition. But it needs a magnetic switch. It is heavy at 2000 pounds. It must be picked up. I can get it onto a dual axle flatbed trailer. I can provide more better photos for the serious buyer.

MASSIVE 16" Jointer manufactured by the L. Power& Company. The only identification on the piece is simply the word"Power" as you may be able to make out from the pictures. I was told the motor was a 7.5HP. But could be a 5HP, I haven't seen any 16" jointers with a motor smaller than 5HP and this motor appears to be original. This machine is of course very old. My best guess would be 1940 but could be older. It is NOT in like-new condition, it has been around for a long time, not sure if the paint is original or not. IT HAS A FENCE! and the fence is in very good shape. Painted solid black. I bought this machine to strip down and restore but I'm not able to find the time. It was in service at a cabinet shop that went under here in Indiana and bought at auction by another cabinet shop whom I purchased it from. ... moreThey had 3 Phase power so I was able to hear it run and it seemed to run fine. Jointer, 16" W.W. Carey, excellent condition, just removed from service
You are bidding on a vintage 16" jointer. Made by the W.W. Carey company based in Lowell. MA. It has a two knife cutter head and the blades are in good, sharp, usable condition. Recently taken out of service when I upgraded to a larger 20" unit. The table is 72" long and there is a large rabbeting ledge, that is.500 deep and almost 4" wide. Makes fast work of rabbeting jobs. Motor is a 3 phase unit and is 3 hp. 220/440 voltage, wired currently for low voltage. The motor wiring was going right into a box mounted on the wall which I used for my on off switch. You will need to mount your own switch on this jointer when you wire it in. Babbitt bearings are tight and have always been well lubricated. You can easily put this jointer right into production. Hand cranks for table are super smooth. Fence adjusts from 90 degrees ... moreto 45 degrees and anywhere in between. A powerful, heavy, old machine. No chatter, and if you feed your stock slowly on the finish cut and take a light pass you will find as nice a cut as a modern 4 knife head. Please be aware that this is an older machine and you will need to have an oil can on hand to lube the bearings, and it will require a bit of maintenance from time to time to keep it running for another hundred years. Local pickup is fine or I can ship anywhere in the USA if you set up the trucking. I can load with no problem for free, but if you want the unit crated there will be a materials charge to do that.
