★ ★★ ★★ ★ This listing shows 2 vintage circa 1800's cast iron flat/sad irons. Both are very old looking with some rust and showing their vintage age. Very heavy. One was identified as a Geneva. Illinois manufacturer and has their distinct star, the other one is IXI with a number but very hard to read. They could be used as bookends, doorstops or as decor. Measure aprox. 6.5"long x 3.5"wide x 5" tall- weigh about 6 lbs. each. All I can say is that I am VERY happy to use my sleek. Modern, electric iron. The model with 8 temperature settings, a blast of steam and'auto shut-off' when I forget to unplug it! I know I would not have fared well living in the 1800's! Interesting Flat irons& Sad irons facts. Blacksmiths started forging simple flat irons in the late Middle Ages. Plain metal irons were heated by a fire ... moreor on a stove. Flat irons were also called sad irons or smoothing irons. Metal handles had to be gripped in a pad or thick rag. Some irons had cool wooden handles and in 1870 a detachable handle was patented in the US. This stayed cool while the metal bases were heated and the idea was widely imitated. Antique Brass Goose Statue/ Door Stop, Heavily Detailed, 4 lbs.
This is a fantastic piece of brass. It measures 13" wide. 7" high and almost 12" from head to tail. It weighs just over 4 pounds and has some very nice detail. I found no manufacturer marks on it, but based on the patina I would estimate the age at leats mid century. We are buyers. Sellers and traders. We work in the Bucks County Pennsylvania area. Due to its weight, would make a great doorstop as well since it weighs almost 3 1/2 pounds. The piece is about 5" wide by 6.5" tall and 2.5" deep, being the larger piece made by B&H it is harder to come by. Some of the original felt is still on the bottom. In good used condition with patina and some signs of age and use. The metal looks to be a brass or bronze color with the weight of cast iron. I'm told these were cast iron pieces. A very nice used custom designed. Handmade needlepoint door stop. This is about 20 years old but still in good to very good used condition. Only issue is that the corners of the felt bottom have worn away. Needlepoint on top and all four sides, made with 100% wool yarn. This is a heavy cast iron Golfer Door Stop that is very collectible and as you can see he is doing everything in his power to make the ball go in the hole. It measures 8" wide by 6 3/8" long.
