This glass hotel door number measures about 6 3/8" wide and features reverse painting on glass. Some of the paint has flaked off and is missing. And it's crackling in other places. There are a couple large chips on the backside of the glass around the screw holes. I was told this was removed from the Henry Clay motel in Ashland Kentucky around the time it was remodeled. Both pieces are clearly marked underneath and numbered'605' Each piece is monogrammed with what looks like the letter'O' I can't tell for sure. The sugar measures 3.25" high(to top of handle) and 3" across the mouth. The creamer is 3.25" high and 3" across the mouth. Colorful bouquets of flowers. The illustration depicts 2 young girls. One is wearing a white dress and the second a bright blue coat and hat lined with fur. The girl in the coat is whispering into the ear of the other girl. The plate is 7" in diameter It is in very good vintage condition. There are no chips or cracks in the porcelain but there is some loss of color in the design-not much in the center illustration but the flowers around the rim show some wear. Albert Sidney Aloe was in business for himself in St. Louis from 1867- 1876 as A.S. Aloe. When he went into partnership and changed the company name. This lasted until 1880, when he was back by himself as A.S. Aloe& Company. I'm sure this forceps is from his first company venture. It is heavy duty and long. Measuring 12" It was possibly used for extracting bullets, as well as other uses. Good condition with slight finish wear, hinge point is tight with no wear play, and works freely.
