This auction is for a wonderful etching of an English bulldog. Signed in pencil by Kurt Meyer- Eberhardt. Matting says HANDSOME DAN and there is a tiny Yale university flag on the right side. Image-12x14" Matted and set in the frame about 21x22" Good condition with some waving to the paper. Matting has yellowed. Frame has wear and losses and some of the backing is missing. Would make a lovely addition to your collection. Kurt Meyer-Eberhardt 1895-1977 German Kurt Meyer-Eberhardt is one of the most famous and revered 20th century dog artists. He was born in 1895 in Leipzig. Germany and died in Munich in 1977. He studied at the Weimar Academy of Fine Arts, where he became a student under the artists Theodor Hagen and Lionel Feininger. He rejected a professorship in Weimar and went to Munich in 1918, where he decided to work entirely ... moreon animal engravings. In 1926 he held his last exhibition in the"New Secession. Up for auction is this wonderful first edition photographic study of Yale University in the late 1940s titled The Yale Scene. Photographed by Samuel Chamberlain with text by Robert D. French. The book was published in New Haven, Connecticut by Yale University Press and in London by Geoffrey Cumberlege, Oxford University Press, in 1950, copyright 1950. The book was published on the occasion of Yale University’s 250 th Anniversary. The 114 pages. Ix, 8.5" x 11" hard cover book is bound in blue cloth covers with gilt titling and titling border on the front cover and gilt titling on the spine. The book is a photographic study of the landmarks. And architecture, of University and consists entirely of ½ page or full page black and white photos. As you can see from the scans the book is in Very Good condition. There is some rubbing ... moreto the covers. Minor edge wear to the extremities, and bumping to the corners. Otherwise, the binding is tight, the hinges intact, and the pages are clean bright and unmarked. Samuel Chamberlain was o ne of America's greatest architectural artists. He studied architecture at the University of Washington(1913) and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology(1914) During the First World War Chamberlain left M.I.T. to join the American Field Service Ambulance Corps in France. He stayed in Europe to sketch and study after the end of the war where he joined other famous Americans such as Whistler. Pennell and John Taylor Arms in sketching European architectural scenes. He split his time during the following two decades between France, Spain and Italy and teaching in the United States. Up for bid is a super cool. Very unusual piece that I believe is from the Yale University. Commemorating the class of 1899. This is large button. Made of a very light metal that has a big Y with a 9 on either side. I've seen numerous instances of Yale using this type of mark to denote a specific year. What I am not sure of, is this actually from 1899, or the 10th or 25th graduation reunions. It measures 2 3/16" across and has a fixed stud on the back of this, where I image it'd fit into a man's jacket lapel. In very good condition, with no damage or wear to be found. There's a few dark spots around the lettering on the front and a few scratches on the back side. A very nice addition to your Yale or vintage collegiate collection!
