This auction offers a small stoneware jar and lid that held YALE MUSTARD. The brown band jar has a patent date of 1905. The front of the jar is stenciled"Yale Mustard Steinwender-Stoffregen Coffee Co. St. Louis U.S.A. It measures 3 3/4" high and 2 3/4" across at the base. The crock is in excellent condition with no chips. Cracks or repairs noted. There is one small spot on the rear heal of missed glaze which does not harm the appearance of this nice piece and is the result of manufacture and not damage. This piece would be a nice addition to someone's collection. I ship to the US only at this time. Payment through PayPal Please. Selling off all our collectibles and family hoarded stuff. Up for auction is an old Yale& Towne Door Time Clock. It is a safe or vault door timing device with triple movement. Overall excellent working condition. I do not have the keys. Winding key or door open key. The wind key is pretty standard, I used a clock key to test each movement. That is why the photos shows the pointer not on zero. When the clocks run down they stop on zero. Then there is a little keyhole, top left, to open the door. I believe this key would be pretty easy to acquire as well. It is very heavy, easily over 10 lbs. too much for my small scale to weigh. As a Machinist I have worked with all types of castings over the last 30+ years. I operate large machinery 10 hours a day. This gives me plenty of time to resurface these antique postal doors. After a century of abuse and neglect, there is beauty lying just beneath the surface. This#1 size 1895 Yale& Towne is a perfect example, although perfection can never be achieved it is always a goal. I remove the old damaged surface and give it a new one. This door has a new lock and will provide years of dependability. The flat glass is almost scratch free. There is a small chip in a corner which cannot be seen from the outside. Comes with one polished and stamped key. A beautiful cabinet deserves a beautiful door. No coating has been applied. Common pattern name is Fan Band. Original manufacturer's name is Yale, first introduced in 1887. Engraved with leaf design on bowl. 7" dia. 5 1/4" high. Original catalog ad showing this open compote as"7 in. flared bowl" is shown on p. 173 of"Bryce, Higbee and J. B. Higbee Glass" and p. 115 of Kamm's"An Eighth Pattern Glass Book. Shown in ad with no lid. Excellent condition, no chips on scalloped rim or the foot. There is one very small chip on the inner rim, and light use scratches on the inside of the bowl. Just picked by me yesterday out of an old western maine home.I have this antique rowing trophy. It is about 7.5" tall and about 5" across the top It has 3 handles.It is inscribed that it was presented by the city of boston NEARA(new england ametuer rowing association to the winner of the eight oared shells junior on the charles river July 5th 1897. Reverse has 2 crossed sculling oars with a wreath in the center(see pic) Trophy has a small spot on the bottom where the solder has come apart, and could be re soldered if the new owner wishes to do so. The beautiful ship Albion, of New York, Captain Williams, one of the packets between that port and Liverpool, having lost her masts during the gale of last night, was driven into Garretstown-bay, to the West of the Old-head, where she struck on a ledge of Rocks, and went to pieces. All the passengers, consisting of nearly 30 ladies and gentlemen, perished, with the exception of one, and of the crew, only six were saved. 10 Handwritten Letters Chittenden Wickes Yale Alumni 1874 European Travel 105pgs
I had such an incredible time reading this group of letters. His writing is none other then amazing. There are a total of 10 letters and between them there are 105 handwritten pages. Our author is Horace H. Chittenden. Yale alumni among other great things. He had taken a trip to Europe in 1874 with his family and a few other young men from Yale and is writing to his good friend. Another Yale alumni, Tomas P. Wickes. Before I quote from the letters I want to give you a bit of background on these two men. First Horace. The author of these letters. Horace Hatch Chittenden was born January 24 th. 1855, in Burlington. Vt. His father was secretary of the Peace Conference of 1861. Registrar of the United States Treasure during the Civil War and an author of note. Two years after graduation from college he completed the course in Columbia Law School ... moreand received the degree of Bachelor of Laws. He was associated with his father’s firm of Chittenden& Hubbard and was later a member of that firm and of Chittenden. Townsend and Chittenden until 1888. He ended up moving to Burlington where he died from shock following an operation. December 26 th. 1909, in the 55 th year of his age. He married Bertha Boradil on October 11 th. 1877 and they had two sons. Next is Thomas Parmelee Wickes. The receiver of these letters. Thomas was born on April 17 th. 1853 in Albany New York. He was educated at the Albany Academy. Philips Academy in Andover Massachusetts then Yale. He graduated from Yale in 1874 and then also Columbia College Law School and admitted to the bar in 1876. For twelve years he was an assistant in the Corporation Counsel’s. He was a candidate for a Democratic nomination as Justice of the Supreme Court. He married Harriett D. Alley who died in May of 1899. Leaving him with two children. Not quite sure when Thomas died. Gorgeous Vintage LARGE YALE UNIVERSITY ROUND BRASS PLAQUE From the Connecticut Estate Auction of an extensive collection of Vintage-to-Antique Yale items. Comes this Beautiful LARGE ROUND YALE UNIVERSITY BRASS YALE SEAL PLAQUE. This 9” diameter piece weighs over 2 ½ pounds and has the complete Yale seal on it with raised lettering around the perimeter and an inner circle further raised from the surface which has the bible. Hebrew lettering and LUX ET VERITAS. I believe this was probably affixed either to a wooden shield backing or to a Yale building because there are two threaded holes on the back which would have been used for the attachment. As shown. It now has a removable plate hanger on it which will come with it. I always have a problem distinguishing between old bronze and brass but this is one or the other.
