The door is made of solid pine and has a Victorian style arrangement of 4 raised panels on both sides. If you think that pine is a weak. Soft wood; please keep in mind that the wood milled from modern pine trees, which only grow for a few decades before they are cut down, is not the same quality as the wood that was milled by our forefathers from trees that were hundreds of years old. This door was built using the wood from mature pine trees, and exhibits the qualities of wood that has endured the test of time. As a result, it's physically harder, less susceptible to warping and twisting, and more insect and rot resistant than today's pine lumber. Hardware: Aside from ... morea mortise lock. The door is not equipped with any hardware. However, we have a good selection of period hardware to outfit the door(check out our eBay store) If you would like any of the hardware holes patched with a solid block of wood. Antique Farmhouse Medicine Cabinet - Rustic & Primitive Painted Pine, Glass Door
Measuring about 11¾" x 15¾" And about 3¾" deep, this antique glass fronted medicine cabinet is very basic in design and probably hand made, the most decorative feature being the beveled edges of the window opening in the door. The door clasp is a simple hook and eye, and it has been fitted- or retrofitted- with window blind hardware on each side for use as mounting brackets. I have no idea how old it is, but if the amount of flaking paint is any indication, then it's very old. It was found in Maine and probably removed from an old farmhouse out in the back woods. Provenance This door stop belonged to Peter Smail(a relative) who was a Milk Haulier in Lochmaben Dumfriesshire Scotland through the late 1930's to the early 1960's We have another doorstop for sale this is the larger of the two which has a piece of wood chipped off on the base Peter lived in Bruce Villa(see photo) Just off the Main Street in Lochmaben, a small village with a big history and reputed to have been the birthplace of Robert the Bruce, King of Scotland(hence the name of the house I imagine) Peter would finish collecting the milk from the local dairy farms early in the morning where he would sit down to a traditional Scottish Breakfast and rest on the porch enjoying the early morning sun(more often than not the rain though) A cigarette hanging from his lip, which would tip ash unceremoniously on the doorway as he greeted ... morethe local towns folk beginning their daily routine after Peter had already finished work for the day. The door stop would be manouvred under the front door with the side of his boot and. As you can see from the wear to the top, he would have done this many times during the pre and post war years. Lochmaben lies around 4 miles west of Lockerbie It is said that Robert Burns resided at The Manse in Lochmaben and in a letter to the Provost of Lochmaben. Robert Maxwell, dated 20 th December 1789. Listing tonight is a fantastic solid pine entrance door removed years ago from my house and stored with care and will re install flat and true. Its a 6 panel design with true mortise and tenon construction. It measure 32 inches wide and 80 inches tall and 1 3/8 thick. You can see in the pics that the lockset is drilled as well as the hinges. So the bid is for a used slab only to be re framed and re hung. One side has clear finish and the other is painted with the signs of wear. It could be refinished or painted. The finish is original and the outside has the weathered look that time delivers. It would also make a great wall hangings or closet/ storage cabinet project door.
