Featuring an adjustable coiled French Ivory(a type of early celluloid) guard with open end that would have been worn over a finger similar to a thimble. Used at a time when women sewed for hours and hours. It has tiny needle marks on the surface that just add to the charm and authenticity. Condition is lovely with no cracks, chips or damage- guard seats over the finger, protecting the nail tip with a slight curved end. Mostly worn off and a bit over cleaned but there is still floral decoration, some wording and the makers name and address can be made out still. The blade has had some cleaning but still looks OK. There is some pitting but it has been cleaned to be bright again. The handle has had the wire replaced at some point and the leather likely also. It looks OK but not as good as it should. The guard moves a bit but not too much, the US is very nice and not on most swords of this model. There is no scabbard. So it has had some restoration but it is still a very nice sword and a hard to find Civil War sword. It is a very good example. Guard Antique Sterling Silver Finger Guard or Shield English* Circa 1870 This solid sterling(tested) finger guard or shield was worn on the index finger of the left hand and used to deflect the needle point as it was pushed through the fabric being stitched. A regular thimble was used on the right hand. It has a faceted rim and wrigglework engraving on the band. The condition is excellent. In round with no holes, dents or even needle marks. It's about an American size 9(16 mm diameter opening) Some of this style are shown on p. 82 of Bridget McConnel's book The Story of the Thimble and on p. 119 of Edwin Holmes' Thimbles. Here we have a lovely miniature tankard or stein. Featuring Buckingham Palace and a Grenadier Guard, repleat with Busby! It is in very good condition with some wear to the base plus a nodule to the interior. Which would have occured in manufacture. There is a very small hairline crack to the interior of the rim which is also visible to the exterior, just above the top of the handle. This, in no way detracts from the piece as a display piece. The base is stamped foreign. Which means that it is definitely pre 1973. When The UK joined The E.C. in 1973, no imports were subsequently stamped in this manner. The style of the piece would suggest that it is of German origin and may well have been produced in the 1950's. The piece measures 9 cms in height and weighs 125 grammes. Straight off a new 2013 Specialized Stumpjumper FSR 29er. SRAM carbon crankset, after 2 rides. Then it snowed: During the downtime I converted to a single ring setup, and no longer will ever use these. My new drivetrain setup has a built in bash/chainguide, so I also do not need the carbon guard. Almost no marks on the large ring(36T- 104 BCD) Small ring(22T- 64 BCD) also looks great. One minor scuff on outer edge of carbon bash. Like new. These would make a great replacement ring set for those who have stayed 2X10 on their bikes. PayPal patment.
