Baltimore(pic 11) According to"American Military Button Makers" by McGuinn& Bazelon that company was in business from 1892-1921. I believe this to be closer to the earlier part of their run rather than the latter part because of the construction of the uniform. This is a very. Very nice WWI-era child's version of a Prussian Guard officer's plumed helmet. The shell is made of black-lacquered cardboard, and it is in excellent condition. There is a dent about 2 inches long on the left rear, and there is some chipping on the rear visor, but it is otherwise in amazing shape for something a kid played with. It's got brass edging on the front visor, and a brass rear spine. The chinstrap is pressed brass while the cockades appear to be steel. The plume base and is brass and is held to the shell with split rivets, and the plume is white horsehair. The front plate also looks to be brass, though it is painted gold to simulate gilt. The guard star looks like steel. The inside is a nice representation of an officers' helmet liner. The sweatband is oilcloth.
