Operating Instructions for SST-6600- Deluxe Engraver. Our two-dimensional pantograph-engraving machine is equipped with a tracing stylus and a diamond tip-engraving stylus. By changing the ratios on the pantograph arms you can engrave letters ¼" tall on the 2 ½ setting to 3/32" tall on the 6 ratio setting. Letter blanks are 1 ¼" ... moretall and the letter is 5/8" tall. Note that the ratio setting on the pantograph arms must always be the same. Use only hand tight pressure on all knobs on this machine. adjustment. The engraving machine can be adjusted to accommodate articles of different heights and width. To adjust the height of the pantograph arms. Rare &Unique "Star" 10"Letterpress Composing Stick Nickle Plated & Collectable
Offered: One 10 i nch Composing Stick manufactured by The Star Tool Manufacturing Company of Springfield. Ohio. This stick design was patented and designed over 100 years ago. I found the these patent dates on a similar Star composing stick I own: Oct. 11,1904 and Oct. 31, 1905. This is a somewhat hard to find design style composing stick capable of accurately setting measure in either even pica or half pica measure. The unique indents on the underside of the composing stick bed allow the knee to lock into those indents with the wedge like locking action of the knee. When the knee is locked into place by sliding thumb lock toward bed backstop, measure is accurately locked into place. When pushed to the opposite direction knee slides easily to desired measure. Since the knee wraps around the stick bed, there is no play and knee is square to ... morethe bed when locked. A very unique design that will complement your collection or be your shop workhorse should you use it to set type with. Stick was manufactured in steel and offered with a nickel electroplated surface. Most of the composing sticks that I have seen that were nickel plated have quite a bit of the nickel plating worn off from many years of hard use. The stick offered has most of it's original plating still very much in place, with only a few wear spots. Stick is straight and true. No bent or warped surfaces. This composing stick is free of engraved or stamped identifiers that you sometimes find. Stick is in like new condition. The Star Manufacturing Company of Springfield. Ohio unfortunately no longer manufactures composing sticks for the printing trades. This is the nicest looking Star composing stick I've seen on eBay in quite a while don't think on this too long! The Star composing stick was only offered with a two inches depth. When you engage the knee at the correct pica measure and lock the knee into place. The knee is locked solidly and will not budge. The graduations on the outside edge denote one pica increments every third pica graduation

Offered: One 8 i nch"Yankee Job Stick" Composing Stick manufactured by R. HOE. This stick design was patented and designed over 100 years ago. The following Patent date is below the name R. HOE on the composing stick: FEB. 87(that's February 1887. This a very old stick that was made by the same company that also manufactured Iron Hand presses of the late 1800's. The stamped letters U.S. P.O. and U.S.G.P.O. gives this composing stick a significant timeframe in printing history. A time before the general use of Linotype machines(invented by Otto Mergenthaler in the late 1800's) and all printing was set one letter at a time. Hard to imagine a type compositor standing in front of a type case setting type line after line all day long. This is truly a conversation piece that takes it to the next level. I acquired this composing ... morestick from a printing equipment dealer back in the 80's and thought at the time this was a find. The dealer was located in the Hartford. Connecticut region of the Northeast and traveled the East coast acquiring printing equipment at shop auctions and the like. This fella was not a stranger to traveling to New York City and Boston or anywhere to snag a bargain. As you can see this stick has plenty of wear from use as well as has numbers identifying the bed and knee a practice that large printing entities would use to identify. Catalog and perhaps assign to a compositor in a large shop with numerous compositors. The steel knee and brass clamp with tightening knob are uniquely designed to attach around the curved backstop of the bed. When knob is tightened the knee locks securely and squarely for accurate lines of equal measure. Letterpress Type Metal furniture H.C. Hansen Type foundry 28+ pounds /91 pieces
OFFERED: Twenty-Eight Plus pounds of Letterpress Type Foundry metal furniture. The largest part of this offering was cast by H.C. Hansen Type Foundry of Boston Mass. The foundry operated from 1872 until it merged with American Type Founders in 1922. I have cleaned off most of the dust off this offering. However there is a pretty good accumulation of ink included with this purchase. These individual pieces of furniture are not solid lead as some would believe, they were cast with a little harder mixture, not as hard as hard foundry type more inline with a monotype mixture. The real advantage to this type of furniture as opposed to wood is that it will not warp and of course it will not shrink as any letterpress printer who has used wood in a lockup left it on the stone overnight and picked it up next day to have all the type fall out of the ... morechase from the change in humidity. In addition metal furniture is excellent for use in lockup when doing register work. Changing colors on a press run can be demanding work and require furniture that does not vary in size. I have include a picture of the H.C.H. and H.C. Hansen name as it appears on the cast furniture. Not all pieces have this marking possibly because of the accumulation of ink. There are a few pieces that vary in look. But are a what I believe a design change so they could produce same sizes using less type metal. Same beefy edges design just has a little less type metal on the inside open area. The starting price of this offering is below the scrap value and that's not including the free shipping that's included.
