Antique Tabletop Letterpress / Rail Press - Daisy Model, Excellent Condition
Antique Tabletop Letterpress/ Rail Press- Daisy Model. Excellent Condition: Up for auction is an excellent example of early tabletop cast iron letterpress/ rail press presses. Before I begin with the description. Picture number 12 shows(2) antique letterpress models which I discovered this past week. Please note that this auction is for the smaller press only however the larger model will also be listed for auction this week so please check out my other listings if you are interested. With the research that I have done. This press dates back to the late 1800's and though the press has no markings, it is almost identical to the Daisy model which I have come across during my research. This petite size rail press model has its original wooden box& chase and a single letter which was wedged between the wooden slots when I rediscovered ... morethis item earlier this week. This is a very clean item and as you can see by the photographs, it is in excellent condition given its age. The midnight black paint has retained its glossy finish and the hand painted decorative trim is clean and vibrant. There are a couple of small areas where the paint has chipped off however these areas are minimal and it takes nothing away from the wonderful look and appeal of this model. The cast iron is also in wonderful condition showing no signs of damage, corrosion or rust and the press operates very cleanly and smoothly. The ink table has a chip in the metal on the front edge however I believe that this was caused during the manufacturing of the item versus being unintentionally damage. The wood block inside of the chase measures 3 1/4" x 1 1/2" and the chase fits properly and snugly when fitted between the two screws. When I discovered this press, other than being a bit dusty from being stored away for many years, it was in otherwise excellent condition and other than wiping away the dust I have not added, removed or replaced any of the parts on this item. FROM AN ESTATE LIQUIDATION. Letter Press. Made by"Magic Press" in Tampa, Florida. Model 2SX. 3" X 7" Table-Top Hot Foil Stamp Machine. Does not include any type, only a repositionable jig on the stamping surface(see pictures) There is some surface rust on parts of the press, but much of it appears to be made of aluminum alloy. All I know about this press is what I've been able to find on the internet. I did plug it in& it warmed up. And the press action on it works smoothly, but it appears to have been in storage for quite awhile. Selling AS-IS; you need to know what you're doing if you buy this. It has three air cylinders, the main cylinder is a slide with about three inches of stroke, the second raises a guide to support the bottle and the third is an ejector. The guide is poorly designed and doesn't work well but it is expected it will have to be retooled anyway. It is controlled by a IDEC Micro 1 PLC with numatics valves. Here's a Nice Antique Tabletop Cast Iron Printing Press. The unit weighs about 13 pounds and measures approximately 15" long and 9 and 1/4" tall. It's in Very Good Condition for the age and use; I do believe it retains most of the original thick enamel finish. With gold embellishments on each side. It's dirty, there are losses and chipping to the paint, surface rust, paint drips and other normal wear- look at the pictures and see that it displays very well despite all that I mentioned. I do not see a manufacturer's name anywhere on the press. It has great pinstriping and an awesome flower design there just aren't many of these left. The levers and moving parts move great as they should. It looks great as is but is a bit dirty it will clean up and look even better if you want to. This is small so you can display it anywhere making it great for a decoration in a home or office. Looks to be a Model 2 although I cannot verify that. Marked GOLDING MFG. CO. as well as FRANKLIN. MASS. USA on one side and OFFICIAL on other side. Press is missing the ink disk and the chase as can be seen in photos. Also missing the small finger that rotates the ink disk. No ink rollers. Ink rollers should be readily available on ebay. This could easily be operated without the ink disk as the form could be inked with a hand brayer until a disk can be obtained. Has normal wear from use and storage including scratches. Scuffs, marring and some light spots of surface corrosion is several spots. I have cleaned it and oiled it to the best of my ability ... moreand it LOOKS GREAT. No breaks or repairs. Looks to have what might be original paint. The press opens and closes very nicely and operates very smoothly. All reasonable offers will be considered. This Rare"Superior" presses appear to be copies of presses made by the Victor Press Company. Which was absorbed by Kelsey Company in the early 20th Century. This will be dismantled and shipped in two separate boxes due to its weight this item weighs over 160 lbs Craftsmen Machinery Company produced presses very similar to the most popular presses of the small-press era. In fact. They were nearly identical copies. Furthermore, Craftsmen seems to have used the original Sigwalt, Caxton, Golding, Victor and other defunct manufacturer's presses as the casting patterns for the presses shown in this 1955 catalog. A comparison of an original Victor Press Company 4x6 press in our collection with the Craftsmen 4x6"Victory" press shown below shows a 1% difference in size. 1% is the amount ... moreof shrinkage normally associated with cast-iron production. To us. This confirms the theory that Craftsmen presses are direct copies of other popular presses from the turn of the century. Here is an antique Baltimorean number 10 table top platen letterpress printing press. It's made of cast iron- very heavy at 15 lbs- and seems to be in very good condition. I don't know anything about printing presses. But it looks as if all the parts are there and in working order. The rubber roller is not dried out, but has a small dent in it& a replacement metal end. No rust other than on the underside of the base. Most of the gold painted trim is still good, the only worn off paint is on the handle. There is type inserted in it; various letters spelling out the words'name, address, phone' etc. apparently for printing out service cards. It has one chase with outside measurements of 9" x 7" and about 7 3/4" x 5 3/8" on the inside. You must loosen a thumb screw to allow the spring to allow chase removal. I t does not have rollers. Platen disc is a bit over 9" across. Is this the largest tabletop model they made? A few other measurements are: 7" x 10" oval base. 17 1/2" tall(to disc edge) 12 1/2" wide, 6" x 10" to hold tympan paper, 26" long with handle up. I put penetrating oil on the paper grab strips and they now move well. Neat Piece! Love The Ornamental Detailing in Front* CONDITION: Structurally. Parts/Fix Kelsey & Co Excelsior 3 x 5" Letterpress Tabletop Printing Press 1893
I sold this quite awhile ago for $300. However unfortunately the plate was cracked in two during shipping and another arm beneath the plate has broken. I'm sure there's people out there who can salvage the parts or perhaps even repair this to working condition. There is some light rust which can clearly be seen in the orange hue. Originally this was black with gold detailing. Much of this black patina and gold detail remains but it is far from complete. Vintage Craftsmen Monarch 9 x 12 Tabletop Letterpress Printing Press C&P Pilot
One of the largest Tabletop Printing Presses! Craftsmen Monarch 9" x 12" Letterpress Printing Press After Chandler& Price went out of business. Craftsmen Machine Co. of Massachusetts made these copies of the Chandler& Price Pilot. Many of the parts are exact or close copies of the Pilot press and are interchangeable with the Pilot. These later Craftsmen Presses. Like this one, was made of high strength cast aluminum. This monster table top press only weighs 125 lbs(less than half of what is would weigh if in cast iron! This press is fully operational. And includes brand new rubber Rotadyne Rollers and new Craftsmen trucks that I purchased from Craftsmen Machinery Co. which is still in business in Mass. This press includes a Chandler& Price(8 1/2 x 12) chase which fits this machine perfectly without alteration and are ... morereadily available. The funny and sad story about the chase. I purchased this from a home print shop and the owner had never used the press in the almost 30 years he owned it. The press actually shows little use. Over the years he lost the chase. Which I found is almost impossible to locate. Craftsmen sold me their last used one for $180 and the post office left it in front of my shop where it was stolen. As a last resort I tried every chase that I had sitting in the shop and low and behold, the most common chase available fit perfect. The chase is a bit beefier than the Craftsmen chase so it only has a 8.5x12 inner size rather than the 9x12 that the original had, but given that the C&P chase can be found any day for about $40, it makes the press even more versatile. This listing is for a beautiful Victorian era calling card or business card letterpress or table top printing press. This item is being sold exactly as found out of storage in an old barn here in the Mid-coast Maine area. I am not familiar with these particular items. So I took this press to a local master printer who informed me that these little presses were used in the late 1800's to early 1900's and were often used privately to print calling cards or by small businesses to print either business cards or information on postcards and photos. This press still has some of the lettering in it which can just be made out to have something to do with photography. This piece has fully working mechanisms. It could use a bit of tightening and adjusting. There is an area of missing paint on the upper printing panel. Also the rubberized roller ... morehas grown dry and brittle with age. Both are an easy restoration. And not really inhibiting this piece from being used as is. It appears to be made from a thinner than expected metal, with maybe parts being tin. Free from rust. many, many extras. 23 full trays of letters, sorted, not mixed. Rubber rollers are used with dried ink on them. Pivot points are free moving. Very hard to find these in this condition and with all the bells and whistles. The original cabinet cannot fit all the letter trays! Sigwalt Chicago#11 letterpress. This is a wonderful Sigwalt Chicago tabletop letterpress. Believe this is the#11 press as it does hold two rollers. The press is black with gold accent paint and retains most of the decal decoration on one side. But only a portion on the other side. This press measures approximately 17' long with handle down, 14' with handle up, 6-1/2' wide and weighs about 12.4 lbs. It is in very good working condition with smooth action but does not come with a chase, type or rollers. The paint is in good condition with some paint loss and normal wear. There are three jars full of letter.And designs. There are a couple of stamps, and they are on the frame. There is a roller in bad shape, and some dried up ink pads, and another piece that I am not sure of. This is in rusty dusty condition, but pulls back and forth smoothly with no issues. If my research is correct; Craftsman Superior 6 1/2 x 10(or) C&P Pilot 6 x 10 Tabletop Press Chase- part#228 outside dimensions are; 11 3/8 x 8 1/16" inside dimensions are; 10 x 6 9/16" Flat-Strait original Chase. I purchased this chase because it measured exactly the same as the chase bed for my Kelsey 6x10 Excelsior. But I then discovered the 2 lower raised details would have to be ground down to make it a fit. I decided not to do that. and to look around for a"authentic" Kelsey Excelsior 6x10 chase instead. Great looking vintage antique Kelsey 3" x 5" tabletop printing press for cards, postcards, letters. The piece dates to the latter part of the 1800s and has the appropriate look and patina. This is the smallest tabletop press that Kelsey made. It is missing a few parts, including some springs and a round ink plate. There may also be other parts not with the machine; I just don't know what is supposed to be with it. I will let those of you who know these pieces to assess its state and condition from the many photos. The overall mechanism of pushing down on the lever and things moving smoothly in synch seems to be working well. I know these are sought after by many and are getting harder ... moreto find.
