Antique vintage letterpress C&M printing press cast iron stamp collectors' item
Antique Vintage Original cast iron C@M(Curtis& Mitchell) letterpress printing press. Size 10" in length. Base is 5" x 7" 4 1/2" in height, about 8 pounds in weight. This rare press is probably dated to about 1890. It has the original dark green paint finish(looks more like black in photographs) I am not quite sure how it works as a press because there is no rollers or a chase. If you are a collector of printing history this is a real find. I can't imagine many of these things survive the test of time. This auction is for a wonderful vintage large brass Letterpress Typography ruler from the J.W. Ford Company- Advertising Typographers Cherry 6410. They were located at 110 W. Central Pkwy. Cincinnati, OH. It is still in very good condition and very legible. Measurements are in 6& 12 PT and Agate. It comes from an estate of someone who worked in the industry probably for the Cincinnati Enquirer from the 1940's onward based on other items from the estate(some of which I will be listing over the next few days) This one is a larger size from most available. it measures approximately 24 inches in length. Vintage Antique letterpress printing 16. Mahogany & Brass COMPOSING STICK
I am not a printer. But I do collect wooden tools that are classic. This qualifies, and if you look at the pictures you will have to agree. It has the number 16. on it, is 19 1/8" long 2 1/2" high and 15/16" deep. It evidently was used in the Baltimore area if the Type left in it is any indicator. I have tried to find a comparable but found only one and it was described as turn of the century antique. I will leave this up to the buyers to set the price.
