Antique vintage letterpress C&M printing press cast iron stamp collectors' item
Antique Vintage Original cast iron C@M(Curtis& Mitchell) letterpress printing press. Size 10" in length. Base is 5" x 7" 4 1/2" in height, about 8 pounds in weight. This rare press is probably dated to about 1890. It has the original dark green paint finish(looks more like black in photographs) I am not quite sure how it works as a press because there is no rollers or a chase. If you are a collector of printing history this is a real find. I can't imagine many of these things survive the test of time. Antique 12" JOB STICK - H.B. ROUSE & CO. - CHICAGO - Letterpress Composing
This is the ROUSE JOB STICK or COMPOSING STICK made by H.B. Rouse& Co. of Chicago. It is 2 inches wide and 12 inches long. It will measure and hold up to 58 picas of type. I'm not sure of the age on this but I've included a description of it from the B B& S Catalog of 1907. They were made for a long time. The lock mechanism works just fine and all of the metal appears to be straight. It does show some pitting on the nickel plating on several of the surfaces. The pica numbers and marks are all readable. But 57 is a little hard to see. Otherwise, the photos pretty much tell the story. It has been cleaned of rust and feels smooth to the touch everywhere. It comes from a clean. Non-smoking environment. Shipping will be in a flat-rate padded envelope. I can change that to a box upon request but the cost is higher.

Antique Miehle Brass Trademark Sign
This old sign comes from the side of a scrapped MIEHLE Printing Press. A beast in its time. Roughly the size of a one car garage. It worked for many years printing the paper of small town New Carlisle, Oh. This small sign was scavenged as a memory of times gone by and would make a great wall hanging for those who collect or even still print in this time honored way. The trade mark sign measures 9 1/4" by 3 3/4. In excellent. Unpolished condition, this brass PRINTER'S GAUGE or PICA POLE measures picas on one side and agates on the other. Manufactured by the STAR TOOL Manufacturing Company, and stamped or engraved as such at the bottom of the pica side. This printer's gauge measures 7.25" long from very top to bottom and.75" wide. The gauge on the pica size is in 3 pica increments. From 3 to 36. It dates to around the 1900-1910. Used for setting moveable type this Pica Pole would be useful for artisans still carrying on the traditional type setting methods and for collectors of measurement instruments of any kind. I am not a printer. But I do collect wooden tools that are classic. This qualifies, and if you look at the pictures you will have to agree. It has the number 16. on it, is 19 1/8" long 2 1/2" high and 15/16" deep. It evidently was used in the Baltimore area if the Type left in it is any indicator. I have tried to find a comparable but found only one and it was described as turn of the century antique. I will leave this up to the buyers to set the price. Here is a vintage brass rule marked Time Savers For Printers- H. B. Rouse& Co. Pat. Pend. Chicago USA. The guage is 19 3/4" X 1" wide could be from the 1930's or earlier. I believe it was used by typesetters. There is a hanging hole at the top and a shoulder on each side to serve as the locator. All markings are fully legible. No damage. Please email any questions. Vintage Wood & Brass Gauge Old, Antique Nice Patina
A wonderful antique gauge. I think it's for typesetting. From a very eclectic relative's estate. It measures a little over 23 inches all together, and has measurements up to 300. The numbers are carved into the wood by hand. You can see if you zoom in. Rather primitive. Hand made feel. The numbers are slightly larger at 50. 100, 150, etc. and smaller at 15. 25, 35, 45. There is a brass edge. And brass end pieces, along with little brass fasteners at intervals all along the wood. It's got a great old patina. A small crack in the wood at the top-please see photos. On the back are some initials. And some scrapings. Maybe some other initials removed? A great old industrial piece. Displays wonderfully. If you know anything about it. Please share your knowledge. It measures 6 1/2 inches from the tip of the handle to the front of the roller and it is 5 inches side to side. It is in good condition. There is some wear to the roller and to the painted finish on the metal from use and age but this in not excessive. The roller turns well and the wood handle is very good.
