Antique vintage letterpress C&M printing press cast iron stamp collectors' item
Antique Vintage Original cast iron C@M(Curtis& Mitchell) letterpress printing press. Size 10" in length. Base is 5" x 7" 4 1/2" in height, about 8 pounds in weight. This rare press is probably dated to about 1890. It has the original dark green paint finish(looks more like black in photographs) I am not quite sure how it works as a press because there is no rollers or a chase. If you are a collector of printing history this is a real find. I can't imagine many of these things survive the test of time. This auction is for a hand cleaned font of 12 Point Brush letterpress lead type(ATF#689) which includes Caps. Lower Case, Numbers and Punctuation, cast by American Type Founders. Type has not been used by me, and had been used only fairly lightly by the previous owner. Just about all of the font cleaned up very well. A few pieces remained dark, although I can assure they are clean. See photos for more visual information. Photo#4 is a reverse(mirror) image for ease in identifying the individual characters. Please note that I inserted a missing capital"R" in front of the lower case r's after finding it. Count should be correct.
