The upper surface has adhesive residue(see photo) When I opened the back I found that one of the battery terminals is broken/corroded off(see photo) I did verify that at least one voltage function works by testing an AA battery. While I have no reason to believe that this won't work properly with the battery terminal repair. I'm not able to test it enough to feel comfortable guaranteeing it. I measured the AC wall outlet accurately and also measured 10ohm. 150ohm, 1000ohm and 10,000 ohm resistors with expected accuracy. The meter doesn't quite zero on the Rx1 scale but didn't seem to affect the measurement of the 10 ohm resistor. Things I've done for the meter: ~Replaced both batteries ~Replaced the only paper capacitor with a new film capacitor. 0.1mf@630volts. ~Cleaned the case and polished completely with Novus#2 plastic polish. ~Polished the shoulder screws that secure the handle ~Tested all functions of the meter. This is a very nice example of a classic Simpson meter. This auction includes only the Simpson meter. The Fluke meter and test leads shown in the photos are not included. Manuals for all the Simpson meters and adaptors can be found at Simpson260 on the web.

The inside looks clean and looks to be all original. The meter will set to line voltage when shorting out lead 2 and 3 as instructed. I had two capacitors. 10 and 4 as shown and the meter read these as 4.5 and 9.8, seems close enough. Internal components, especially the capacitors are original and aged. I would presume top performace could be achived if these were replaced or upgraded, but for the two capacitors I checked they unit seems OK. Comes with operating instruction and a pair of test leads. Vintage SIMPSON Model 260 SERIES AFP-1 Military Version Multi Meter
Vintage SIMPSON 260 Series AFP-1 Multi Meter(made in USA) Its in excellent cosmetic condition. This is the rare military version with the hard plastic front cover. The batteries used in the 260 Series AFP-1 are a single"D" cell, plus an Eveready 417, 15 Volt battery. It works for voltage but resistance doesn't go all the way to zero and for the Rx10k setting you will need to find a 15v battery to use this setting. I put a new Duracell D battery in it. And found the negative terminal is partly broken but still holds the battery well, one resistor on the board looks burnt, but otherwise its very clean inside and out. The dial and glass are excellent.The rubber coating on the steel handle is in very good condition. The sides of the case wear the handle is attached show some wear/scuffing from the handle rotating. I do not think that the leads included are original. They are Bueler Electric clips with 2 nails(removable) clipped to the end. They are red and black twisted strand wire. The 3 front knobs all work well. I have taken pictures of the battery compartment areas that look quite clean. I will send with AA batteries installed because it holds the retaining battery plates in position better. Vintage Simpson Model 260 Series 6XLP VOLT OHM MILLIAMMETER Multimeter NMIB
This is a fantastic multi-meter in fantastic condition with it's original box. Instruction manuals and original tags on the handle. Works great! Just tested before doing the listing. Multi-meter is bright and shiny. Has 2 small paint drippings on the bottom of the case that will come off but I did not mess with them. Beautiful face on the meter. Switches are tight and click from position to position as expected. This is the vintage, Simpson 260 series 6XLP. Cables are still soft and supple and have the original waxy covering still evident. Included is the original Operators Manual for the 5000 VAC probe that is crisp and clean with tight staples. Also included is the original owner's manual that is bright and clean and has tight staples and also includes the original pink warranty card that is unused and clean and bright(not shown ... morein pictures) As an added bonus the original owner's manual for the 5000 VAC AC probe, also in unused, fantastic condition. All of the stapes on the operator's manuals are tight and the manuals themselves only show minor rubbing. The original box has the foam inserts and it is pretty solid, but, it does show shelf wear, rubbing and some tearing along the opening edge flaps. There are also some holes and a large scuff on the box. This Simpson multi-meter has not seen much use. It is in fantastic condition. Please review the pictures carefully so that you can determine condition and quality for yourself. How many times are you going to find a great meter in this condition with it's original box and owner's operator's manuals?
