This charm is in MINT condition never having been removed from the original card or placed on a charm bracelet. The lower section of the blue fuzzy card had the hallmark G with the arrow through it. But it fell off a long time ago. The charm is without damage and has a light patina. I could not find a hallmark on the charm but also did not want to remove it from the card or tamper with it. WWI U.S. Army Signal Corps Semaphore Flag Kit
Up for bid is a WWI U.S. Army Signal Corps semaphore flag kit. It is marked HQ 21st FA. The carry bag was made by Mills. And is dated JAN 1917. It has all 4 flags: two with diagonal red/white flags on the wooden handles; the red flag with the white square; the white flag with the red square, and one 3 piece brass pole, painted black. The flags are stained from honest use, as is the case. The red is still very bright, and the white has turned a bit yellow. One of the larger flags has had a tie ribbon become detached, but a few stitches would fix that. It is all original, and for being almost 100 years old, it doesn't get too much better than this. You generally don't find all 4 flags: usually one pair or the other is missing. What you see is what you get. This would make a great addition to your WWI display or for re-enactments. The Wiggler" with Original Pull Chain- Very Unusual Piece This is an early chain activated mechanical directional signal arrow. With reflectors on both sides. This signal arrow is stamped with The Wiggler Buffalo NY. It consists of an e mbossed enabled arrow that extends approximately 18" off of the wall. When left alone it hangs down. But when the pull chain is pulled it swings to a 90 degree angle from the wall. There is paint loss and corrosion but in very good working condition. Pennsylvania Railroad PRR PL-3 Position Light Signal, US&S, Restored, ca, 1940
For your consideration is this ca. 1940 authentic Pennsylvania Railroad PL-3 position light signal head. From what I have been told about this unit it is supposed to have survived both the Penn-Central and Conrail eras. And a date- 1976- written on the reflector dish, would appear to support this view. The unit was cleaned thoroughly. De-rusted, primed, and painted. Rotted gaskets have all been replaced, and even the phankill unit has been cleaned. The plastic prism and conical yellow lens assembly has been"permanently" gasketed per specification. The original bulb has somehow miraculously survived, and powers up brightly at 12V, per specification. This unit was in incredibly rough shape when I bought it; it had clearly been sitting outside without any sort of attention or maintenance probably since 1976. And one small loss is on ... moreone side cover(see photos) It had even been host to a large nest of termites. Most of the original hardware had to be replaced, and most screw holes had to be re-tapped. By the time of Penn-Central much of the"original-original" hardware(and gaskets) had been swapped out for a"make it work" kind of maintenance. Following that tradition, I replaced the hardware with more up-to-date(e.g. stainless) materials where possible, and functional equivalents elsewhere. You will note that hex screws hold the lens retaining ring and hood on, and the thumb screws are not of the wing variety. But unless one is striving for absolute accuracy, this should not be a concern. This features the U-bolt designed to attach it to a standard 5" pipe mount. It does indeed power up and it shines BRIGHTLY(see last photo) The 12V power supply however. IS NOT INCLUDED in this auction. Most standard 12V wall-warts should suffice if they put out = 8 amps. Old Juilian A. McDermott Signal Light Portable 230 volt Railroad Selecto-Flash
This is an old RR safety or caution flasher. Someone said it was a Western Electric D flasher, made by Julian McDermott in Ridgewood, NY. It uses five 45 volt batteries for about 230 volts DC. Wow, that's a heck of a light! The light is held in place by a spring loaded cotter pin, so it can be removed from the base and placed away from the unit up to the length of the coiled cord. Probably WW II(it's got an olive drab colored carrying strap) or a little later vintage, I think they phased out those 45 volt batteries by the late 50's. Weighs a chunky 33 lbs. This is a great piece that was likely used on a train. Tractor, vehicle or construction equipment as a warning signal. The whistle has a cast aluminum top and a solid brass base. The whistle would have been attached to a source of steam or compressed air and when the bottom lever was pulled the whistle would blow. Based on the patina and materials, we're guessing this is from the 1930's or 40's, but there are no company markings or anything that can date this definitively.
