All normalizations were recently run and passed the crt is clear and bright(sorry if the camera doesn't do justice) these normalizations are internal tests which were recently run and is in very good shape. I apologize for some of the pics from my camera this unit took me quite an effort and parts to repair but I felt the unit was worth it. I am sure many of the buyers of units that don't show the unit passing all the normalizations tests know just how dissapointing equipment like that is when they paid over a 1000$ for the unit! Tektronix changed something with the 2710 models over previous models it now by doing such tests provides a very accurate assessment of the unit automatically by doing a minor recalibrating of itself so you don't have to trained in how to test these units to know the condition. If you ever want to see what condition your 27xx is in let it warm up properly then go to the utility menu(by pressing Util button) and select normalizations then select all normalizations if your unit passes all normalizations then it is in pretty good shape but to find any sections that fail this type of test you select the service normalization section of the menu and it will display for each section what failed or passed. Marconi 2031 2.7GHz Signal Generator, Partially Working
This unit works perfectly from 1.35-2.7GHz. Below 1.35GHz the power level is accurate when set to 11-13dBm. But falls rapidly below that. When the level is-3 to-5dBm it is accurate again, and falls again. This repeats every 20dB and coincides with the switching of the attenuator. Not sure if this is a hardware of software problem, but everything else seems to work. Unit has lots of modulation options and a built-in function generator for modulation. On carefully firing this up I was quite surprised to find this functioning well on all ranges and the readings on my frequency meter(I don't have a'scope) corresponding closely to those on the dial. Furthermore. I left it running for about half an hour and did not detect any overheating or burning smells etc. The output control is a little shaky until it gets past the first 1/5(2 volts) or so of its travel but fine thereafter. Meter on instrument agrees with my DMM within 10% or so. Valves are: Brimar 6V6GT. 6J5GT, 6SN7GT& Zaerix 6X5GT What remains of the mains lead(which has been cut off) has the modern colours suggesting that this may have been in use within the last 30 years or so. The wide metal band surrounding the base of the 6J5GT is coming adrift. UK P&P will be £10. Will be packed with great care.
