This is an Amplifier and ALC Detector module model 0960-2038 used in an HP 8444A Tracking Generator. It appears to have been used but was not discarded assuming a replacement module did not fix the problem. Using a spectrum analyzer and tracking generator I have checked that there is overall gain between the input and output ports of approximately 20 dB up to 1 GHz(upper limit of my analyzer) This appears to be good based on the 26 dB gain of the internal amplifier and combined losses of the internal 3 dB attenuator and low-pass filters. The output from the level detector varies from 0v to a couple hundred millivolts negative DC depending on the RF input level. The internal reference diode also appears to be OK when checked with an ohmmeter. Showing conductivity when forward biased and open when reverse biased. HP Agilent 8591E Spectrum Analyzer/ with TRACKING GENERATOR opt 4,41,101,102,10
I have two of these units. one is an 8591e stock and has opt 41 the parallel and gpib as well as keyboard interface option and 004 the super stable timebase and of course the tg. Crt is good. the other one is in the same condition but a convert from 8591c to 8591e meaning the 75 ohm connectors were changed w 50 ohm connectors and the power on units were changed back to dbm. so now it functions as an 8591e. That one has opts 4, 41, 101 fast adc, 102 am fm demod/ video sync, and of course the tg and an excellent crt, for the same price the choice is yours. I am a bit flexible with option installations so let me know what you need exactly. since I repair and modify these for a living. I can make sure this one either has or doesnt have the tg when purchased. 800$ less if you dont need the tg. The installed cards are A4H- GPIB and parallel interface, 120- ACPR dynamic range extension, AYX- fast sweep and ports, and frequency extension. This instrument also has"Power Suite Utilities" listed under"installed ... morepersonalities" The display brightness is not nearly as bright as a new instrument, but is certainly functional. This instrument auto-aligns just fine, and has passed the 2 display pixel tests, plus a front-panel key-press test. It was factory calibrated in September, 2012, and was due for re-calibration this past September, 2014. Overall, this instrument has seen plenty of use, and is in good, used, generally clean, fully functional condition. As you can see in the photos, there is NO CARRY HANDLE OR FRONT COVER INCLUDED.
