RARE 1940s 50s ANZENGRUBER AUSTRIA NUBIAN BOY FIGURE HAGENAUER GOLDSCHEIDER ERA Up for auction is this RARE 1940s 1950s LEOPOLD ANZENGRUBER KERAMIK AUSTRIA NUBIAN BOY FIGURE HAGENAUER. GOLDSCHEIDER ERA Leopold Anzengruber(1912- 1979) was born in Austria. He was trained at a young age in Firenze. Italy and during this time I understand he produced fgures and pottery masks. In 1942 he returned to Austria and after World War II he set up Anzengruber-Keramic by taking over the pottery workshop of Gusti Mundt-Amann 49 Boecklin Strasse. Vienna 2. His design of Negro and African figures(none as'Nubian' Both male and female were very popular and became iconic images of the mid-century period. This is one of two superb figures I have. Both purchased together privately(see the last three photos of them both together- the other is also on Ebay ... moreat the moment) It is black painted terracotta with a beige/white colour on his collar and ankle. There is no damage. Has impressed marks on the underside of"Made in Austria" it also has an"X" impressed. Note whilst this doesn't have the'Anzengruber' mark on it as the other one does. There is no question this is from the same pottery. This one measures just over 6.25inches high. Just over 2.25inches at the widest(across his knees) and sits 3inches deep. Please see all photos showing the detail of this item. This is an excellent example of mid-century pottery and of interest to many collectors of negro/ nubian figures. The ring was not actually recovered with the gemstone intact. However usually this style of bronze ring was set either with a glass gemstone(glass was quite costly) or with some form of quartz crystal; i.e. clear quartz, orange quartz(carnelian” or purple quartz(amethyst” The ring is of heavy and durable construction, and is fashioned in the more archaic two-piece style; an incomplete ring(a“shank” with a separately crafted bezel which was brazed to the shank in order to assemble the ring. This as opposed to the more modern style of construction prevalent in the following centuries whereby the bands and bezel are integrated(fashioned from a single piece of metal) You’ll note that even the ring band is a bit lumpy and primitive, the band varying in width between 3 1/2 and 4 1/2 millimeters. Large Vintage African or Nubian Woman with Bowl Planter
Unique tall planter of a African woman carrying a bowl on her head. The detail is amazing with all of the features of her hair and face very clear. The earrings and bowl are a high gloss metallic gold. The entire exterior has a high gloss glaze. The interior of the bowl is a pale turquoise blue and is a matte finish. There is no makers mark. Size: 10.5 in tall. 7 in wide at base and 5 in wide at the figurine. The bowl is 5 in deep at the center.

Few very slight gum bends. Selvage of 25F has a tiny light corner crease at bottom left. Very fresh and attractive NH condition. All faults are mentioned. As well as other details of condition. Vintage Chalkware 1950's Nubian Blackmoor Lamp Base This wonderful old guy stood guard over my female Nubian that is also listed on my store pages. He stands 16" tall and weighs in at 5 pounds. There is a tiny metal hole in the top of his turban that a metal rod that either was or maybe never used as a lamp. These came in sets with a male. Femal and two matching seated ashtrays. Rarely can you find all of these intact. This guy has gold pants and turban and some orange paint is showing up in a few chips. look at the photos. His body is black and no chips as well as his face and arms. I do know I have had these in orange, lime green and gold so I do not know if this is original paint.but who cares, its still a cool old piece. VINTAGE Blackamoor Nubian Genie Male figure lamp. In a great red. Black and gold coloration with good color. I offer this in the event you need an additional Blackamoor accent piece, or have his mate or maybe you are like me and simply ADORE this art. He has some issues that I show in a few pics so you may access how they may effect your use. In all the while this has been used, no one commented they saw these issues until I point them out. He has lost his head. OUCH! He also fell off his stand…or some such incident as he is mended at the neck( very clean) and at the foot( nicely done but not as clean) Mends are solid and aged and other than them this does present well with no ugly chips other than a few to the finish on the back side. Antique 1920's Black African Bookends Black Nubian Warriors Negroes Original
Pair of vintage Egyptian Revival bookends. They appear to be white metal covered in bronze. I thought they were pure bronze because they weigh 5 lbs each. And have some green oxidation showing on both, but one has a thumb broken off, and it appears to be white metal underneath. The metal under the green felt is magnetic, but the rest of the bookends are not. They are unmarked, unless there is a makers mark under the felt They are 8 3/4" tall, and are as-found. I'm sure the green oxidation will remove easily if desired. Photo#4 shows some adhesive along the front base of one of them. Whatever it is, it is very hard and not seen on the other one. Circa 1920s figural match safe A genuine art deco period cast bronze match safe in the form of a black african girl wearing a grass skirt and carrying a lidded basket. The patinated figure and stylised plant are held on to the base by three screws. The last picture shows the screws to the underside of the base and the original unpatinated colour of the bronze casting. No makers mark but most probably Austrian or German in origin. Hagen Renaker miniature made in America Nubian Goat Doe retired
This is Nubian Goat Doe item 3149. It stands 1 3/8" tall and was designed by Helen Perrin Farnlund. It was only in the line from 1995 until 1998. This piece is free from chips. Breaks or repairs unless I have specified above. Hagen is the only manufacturer of miniature ceramic animals left in the U.S. The company was founded in 1946 by Maxine and John Renaker. Maxine passed away a few years ago at the age of 89. The first factory was in Monrovia. CA but in 1962 it moved to San Dimas. The company continues under the leadership of their daughter to produce these lovely animals. One of the characteristics of ceramics is that as they age they develop small hairline cracks in the finish called crazing. This is normal and is not considered a flaw. If you see some residue around the bottom it is just the paper from the sticker. It comes off ... morewith warm soapy water. Now speaking of the sticker or the card. Hagen Renaker offers their miniatures either with or without a card. Cards were for the benefit of some retailers so they could price the items and to reduce breakage on the shelf. They were never intended to be displayed. Once purchased, with the card, this would be as tacky as Minnie Pearl leaving the price tags on her hats. Many. Many pieces are shipped at the customer’s request without a card. Cards add nothing to the value of a piece except to prove to untrained collectors that they are authentic. Some of my pieces have cards others do not. If they have a card chances are it will not be pristine. They might be badly wrinkled or torn etc. If an item is pictured with a card, it may come without the card and visa versa. If paper cards are important to you please ask before buying. I have some extra loose cards that I can include. Oh. And one other thing about the cards. For a number of years Hagen printed dates on the cards. Original VERNON KILNS 1940 Disney's FANTASIA NUBIAN CENTAURETTE #24 - RARE
Hello You are looking at probably one of the hardest to find holy grails of this incredible line. This is an original 1940 Walt Disney Vernon Kilns Fantasia Nubian Centaurette. This gem has never been restored or repaired. No color touch ups. This is from my original collection that I will be listing over time so why not start with a bang. I will try and describe as best as possible any flaws I see. Please check over the photos to double check what I have indicated. Please check the photos carefully and ask questions before bidding. Statue has no chips or cracks visible. It is clearly marked underneath with the Vernon Kilns stamp and the# 24. Underneath is a little dirty which could be clean but I am a firm believer in keeping things unrestored. There is a tiny chip in the inside rim of the underneath which does not affect the beauty of this ... morestatue. This particular statue has become extremely hard to find and there has not been any# 24 up for auction in a very long time. There are 2 Nubian statues released in this line with the other being# 23 which is easier to track down. Sadly many did not collect the Nubian Centaurettes back then and preferred the Blonde ones which in turned made these even more rare in this age. I have seen this particular statue fetch well over $1500.00. This is a relist and there will be no further price drop. This No Reserve auction will start well below that. During our research we have been informed she dates about c1890 and is of Austrian origin. To the rear at the base is the Frederick Goldscheider incised marks. Other marks of numbers above with: A signature to the shoulder to the rear with: further incised marks to the side at the bottom. In a terracotta with the hand painted colouring. Wonderful porrayal with the head scarf and part open wrap across the breast with decoration of medallions around the neck. Stunning facial decoration of the female blackamoor. This unusual figure of a Nubian maiden is wearing nothing but a drape over her thigh and a necklace. She reclines on a rocky mound, by her side is a water fountain with an urn catching the water. The figure is well modelled. The Parian of a high quality being smooth, creamy and tactile. The condition is very good with just a couple of firing flaws. Vintage 1950s Retro Ceramic Kitsch Barsony Style Nubian Black Lady Figurine RARE
A gorgeous Barsony style 1950s figurine of a black naked lady. I originally bought this in Germany but from the name of the sculptor at the back I think it may be Italian. Hopefully someone can let me know who is reading this! I have a collection of these myself as they look great on a vintage table. This particular lady has a lovely sun hat and is sitting down holding a basket and a gold dish. The figurine looks like it is made of chalk as there is some wear to the foot part at the back as seen in 1 of the photos. Looking at the derriere of the figurine there are the initials" GM E. Cataldi 19. WEIETTO? The last word is a bit difficult to read. The figurine has a height of approx 22cm and a width of approx 18cm. 3pc Set Nubian Queen Black Americana Art Pottery Head Vases Vintage MidCentury
This is a set of 3 vintage Nubian Head Vases. Also referred to as Black Americana Art Pottery Vases. They are mid-20th Century, and they are fabulous! The largest has a gold vase with turquoise/blue marbly or mottled glossy interior, a rare variation on an uncommon item. The sculptured face on this largest one is so very regal-please check out the different angles. This head vase is wearing large gold-tone double-hoop earrings. It has detail of 4 thick cornrows. It stands 10 1/2" tall and measures approximately 7" across. It is very rare in undamaged condition like this. The smaller vases stand 5 1/2" tall and measure approximately 2 3/4" across. They have gold vases with black interior. Their faces. Also beautifully sculpted, are painted with gold accents and red lips. Though similar in style, the small vases are not ... morean exact match for the larger vase. We found them as a set at an estate sale, and they just seem to belong together. These vases have no chips or cracks, no crazing and only one tiny spot of gold wear on the largest vase that we could see. The spots in the photos are camera flash, as these 3 vases are also still very glossy black. Really a gorgeous set! They are unmarked, as far as we know, although at least the larger one may possibly be attributed to Stanford Pottery. They all have green felt on the bottom, which was common in Mid-Century pottery. The design is a blackamoor/ nubian genie holding a dead bird behind his back- either a duck. Goose, or swan. The main glaze color is cream with underglaze accents of black, yellow, and green. 3pc Set Nubian Queen Black Americana Art Pottery Head Vases Art Deco MidCentury
This is a set of 3 vintage Nubian Queen(or Nubian Princess) Head Vases. Also referred to as Black Americana Art Pottery Vases. They are Art Deco or mid-20th Century, and they are fabulous! The largest has a gold vase with turquoise/blue marbly or mottled glossy interior, a rare variation on an uncommon item. The sculptured face on this largest one is so very regal-please check out the different angles. This head vase is wearing large gold-tone double-hoop earrings. It has detail of 4 thick cornrows. It stands 10 1/2" tall and measures approximately 7" across. It is very rare in undamaged condition like this. The smaller vases stand 5 1/2" tall and measure approximately 2 3/4" across. They have gold vases with black interior. Their faces. Also beautifully sculpted, are painted with gold accents and red lips. Though similar ... morein style, the small vases are not an exact match for the larger vase. We found them as a set at an estate sale, and they just seem to belong together. These vases have no chips or cracks, no crazing and only one tiny spot of gold wear on the largest vase that we could see. The spots in the photos are camera flash, as these 3 vases are also still very glossy black. Really a gorgeous set! They are unmarked, as far as we know, although at least the larger one may possibly be attributed to Stanford Pottery. They all have green felt on the bottom, which was common in Mid-Century pottery.
