Offered for auction is a fabulous early twentieth century handmade goat hair rug/blanket. It is 100% natural with no dyes. It dates back to the early twentieth century. And is in very good condition, overall. I believe it to be from the 1920's based on the estate they were purchased from. But am not certain. The natural red has a beautiful faux-pile made of genuine goat hair. The top is a nice shaggy look. Great for a simple rug. It looks fabulous on a hardwood floor or in a cabin. If you ever wanted a fur rug this is the piece for you! They are also used as blankets. Though I feel it would be rather itchy. It does look amazing draped at the end of the bed or over a chair. Antique vintage Anatolian Siirt Turkish goat hair woven wool blanket rug 68 x 47 Turkish Anatolian Siirt blanket. Angora goat hair. Natural off-white color base with black/brownish stripes. One side has a flat weave, and the other has pulled goat hair. Weavers used a comb on the surface of the weaving to produce the pile, for a faux-fur effect. These blankets are very hard to date. I have done quite a bit of research. And along with the information I received from the estate, I believe this dates from the 1940's, or possibly even earlier. Could even be 19th century, but I'll get to that reasoning below) The gentleman to whom this belonged was in the Navy in World War II, and picked up many treasures in his travels. This blanket was found in a trunk of his that also had his uniforms from World War II. Here is some partial information ... moreon one of the sites about these blankets. Angora goats are named after the Turkish province of their origin, Ankara. 9 Angora goats are believed to have originated around 2.400 BC.
