Vintage& classic. Old school PENN"SQUIDDER" MODEL#140 GAME FISH REEL, still in excellent overall condition, from back in the 1960s era we'd guess. Reel features maroon sideplates with chromed brass inside& outside rim guards, handle& star drag, and reel foot of course, with plates held apart by four(4) chromed brass pillars with wide open top for"thumbing" the spool of course. Also has the HD reel seat marked: 30-200" with twin square holes for the factory rod strap screws, plate, wing nuts(NOT included but easily obtained on-line) plus heavy duty, chromed spool, small parts, counter-balanced handle with green"swirl" plastic finger grip as well. This old school Squidder#140 Reel probably dates back into the 1960s era, and has already stood the test of time with flying colors.See Photos) Reel ... moremeasures about 5 3/4" across from left sideplate with chromed bearing cover& functioning"clicker" button across to the right sideplate on top of the chromed nut holding the handle& star drag on. Right sideplate has the"free spool lever" at top above the gearbox, which is molded right onto the plate for strength. Too many reels. Need more rods. Somewhat rare left hand 140 squidder. This reel has been totally disassembled, meticulously cleaned and lubricated. Excellent oiled bearings. Fabulous freespool with the aluminum spool. No cracks or chips in the bakelite plates. Chrome is very good, only minor spots of brassing, Normal scratches and scuffs. Leather drag washers have been replaced with new carbontex. Classic black sideplates, later vintage. Take apart function smooth and solid. Just spool up line and ready to fish. Penn 140 Squidder Newell Aluminum Spool Made in USA
Up for auction is a used Penn 140 Squidder Newell spool made out of aircraft quality aluminum. This spool is in excellent working condition and does have the CN intials on both sides on the spool. The width is 2 7/16 inches and it will hold 325 yards of 20 pound mono. I did test the spool in a Penn 140 Squidder reel and it spins like a top. You are bidding on a Vintage Penn 140"Squidder" Reel Kit. The Kit includes: the Penn 140 Squidder Reel. An Extra Spool, a Rod Clamp and hardware, a 1951 Penn Reel Catalog No. 16, and the Original Box. The Penn Squidder was designed for surf casting. Features include: an internal air brake spool to help reduce backlash a spare spool ball bearings quick take apart feature 3 and 1/2 to 1 gear ratio reel free-spool lever anti-reverse lever ratchet control stainless steel gears convertible star drag one shot lubrication chromium plated'nickel silver' frame This is the wider spool model with a capacity of 200 yards of linen fishing line. This reel spent most of its life in this box. The box shows some wear but is all present. Including the smaller box that fits inside to hold the spare spool and rod clamp. This reel is straight from my collection. Clean inside and out. It has the beautiful orange-swirl handle, maroon sideplates, upgraded HT 100 drags, and steel main and pinion gears. This Penn 140 is very nice. With only minor age spots showing on some of the chromed areas. It is mechanically sound, with all gears having very little ware. The reel was only used 3 times do to the fact that I rarely ever went salt water fishing, I am a avid bass fisherman, so the use of the reel never hardly presented itself.
