I have owned this BC-342L Receiver for about 45+ years and in that time I haven't had a chance to do anything with it having too many projects and too little time. It is pretty much original as can be seen from the photos. The front panel doesn't have any extra holes and all of the jacks on the panel have their original little engraved covers. Even the"ugly" connector and it's cover are still on the front panel(the first thing usually removed by those destructive"hamsters" It looks like some kind of"mod" may have been made to the manual gain control as some wires are attached that don't"belong" it seems like back in the day it was the thing to do to rewire the gain control and AVC so that the 1st RF stage ran wide ... moreopen supposedly making a better s/n ratio. It looks like someone changed a fuse holder, but nothing looks to have been really"hacked up" and can easily be put back to original. The second antenna connector insulator is broken and the dial window is missing. I have another set in poor condition with a good dial glass but it is stuck. I will include the dial glass if I can take it out without breaking it. The chassis is sooty. It appears that the filter cap might have shorted in the power supply as evidenced by the rectifier tube that has signs that it was working way too hard. I can't guarantee anything about this set never having time to dig into it but I will offer any spare tubes needed(if I have them) or magnet wire(so you can rewind the transformer. Choke, etc.if needed) if you pay the shipping for the parts. I am willing to offer any help to the"lucky bidder" that I can in the line of parts I may have or free advice(if wanted! Where else will you find a deal like that? I would like to see someone finally get this set working after I've been keeping it safe all these years! Originally the transceiver and power supply were designed by Collins under strict specifications for field use by the USA armed forces and have been in service since the Vietnam conflict. This transceiver has the 10. 15, 20, 40& 80 meter ham bands crystal originally installed by Collins but also has another crystal board fixed on top of the chassis so that other bands can be worked with the appropriate crystals.
