But I do know how to use the basic functions of a voltmeter and this unit appears to be working as it should I'm not sure what the know on the right does. But on one of the settings- all the outputs put out their advertised voltages. The voltages are variable as set by the knob on the left- it and the built in meter work great. The only issue I could find was that the ground on the bottom left set of posts didn't read as high voltage as the ground above it- the positive side works great if you use the upper ground post as shown in the pics. Up for bidding is this Vintage Arrakis Power One Power Supply. It came from a local radio station. Item is blue with a black synthetic handle on top. Four screws originally held the front panel onto the power supply. But one of these is missing. It's dusty and has a number of scratches, dings, scrapes, and minor corrosion as is to be expected of an item of this age and utility. There are two cables coming out of the power supply. One is a conventional, three-prong, grounded plug. The other is a 9-pin connector bearing only 6 pins. Wires going to these pins are green, bule, orange, black, white, and red. The transformer has the words"Power One" in raised letters on the back. There is a quality control sticker from Arrakis Systems on the back. A stamp inside the power supply reads"FEB 04 1985. On the back towards the left. ... moreCleverly concealed from access by camera, are printed the words"POWER-ONE INTERNATIONAL SERIES, and the following: HCC 15-3-A OUTPUT: ±12VDC AT 3.4AMPS OR ± 15VDC AT 3 AMPS There is more printed writing at the right of this same panel. Vintage Eimer & Amend Fisher Scientific variable power supply
Please see images. The item is a variable AC power supply 4- 24V and internally has a 4 ohms rheostat that allows to vary the output power in a crude manner. The voltage is controlled in increments of 4V; this was of course long before the semiconductor era.There is no label or indication on the device to suggest the date of manufacture. From the way the internal cables are tied together( with string) and the rubber/ cloth insulation it certainly predates the usage of plastics as insulation. The item works and the only issue I see is that one cable has its rubber insulation beginning to crack. Not obviously, but visible at a careful inspection; I would consider this normal after what is probably more than 60 years, more likely 70. Also the banana terminals while still attached securely to the cables show signs of wear. The box is what I believe ... moreto be steel, there is no sign of corrosion or damage inside or outside. The rheostat is probably in need of some cleaning but still varies the resistance as it should. After I verified there is no short anywhere I plugged in the device and it performs as designed, I could measure the prescribed voltages. I have no idea what could it be used for; probably some lab experiment where there was a need to vary the power. The output voltage indeed varies from 4V to a little over 24V. This is a neat vintage Eico DC variable power supply/ battery charger model 1050 and a nice analog multimeter model 556. Power Supply has two settings. 6v 10 amp and 12v 6 amp continuous(6v 20 amp 12v 12 amp intermittent) There is a knob where you can adjust the voltage for each range and a dc voltmeter and amp meter to monitor the output. It was putting out voltage on the 12v setting, I didn't notice the meter indicate anything on the 6v setting, so that might need to be looked at. This is very old school probably from the 50's. you can find the manual online and if memory serves correctly it uses selenium rectifiers instead of solid state bridge rectifiers, I think the voltage adjust is an auto-transformer. Has a longer cord someone spliced on, see pics. The multimeter comes with the manual, it is untested and missing the screws ... morethat hold the back on. Sold as-is, no returns.

Vintage ALLIED KNIGHT KG-660 RADIO METER 12V POWER SUPPLY VARIABLE ASSEMBLED KIT
Here is a Vintage ALLIED RADIO CO. KNIGHT MODEL KG-660 12Vdc POWER SUPPLY WITH METERS. From what I can figure this was one of the Knight Kit pieces of test gear you could buy back in the 1950s/60s as an unassembled kit and would build with help of an assembly manual it would have originally had. It appears to have been assembled fairly well. The builder left out the 6/12v switch but the control on the front will change the dc output voltage from about zero to almost 20 VDC. We did power it up and hooked it up to a DMM and read voltages that changed from 0-20 vdc(may not go as high with a load attached) and the meters do move so it does appear to be working. But I would not guarantee how stable it changed voltages as the controls and switches all need some electrical cleaning and repairs as they are all very touchy so you'll need to work ... moreon it a little before you can use it, as ususal for a piece of electronics this old but at least it is NOT DOA! Item shows wear and probably was used a lot over the years but still looks like they did take pretty good care of it, being offered as you see it and as we found it.
