This auction is for a laboratory electromagnet setup. It consists of a Varian Model V3401. 8" diameter face, 1.2 T Electromagnet, a Walker HS 4518 Power Supply and a Walker Current Control/Reverser. I don't see the 1.2 T written anywhere but that's what the university told me it was. I was told it is in working condition but I don't have the means to test it so it's being sold as is. I will ship it at cost. I guess that altogether it is around 4000 lb. and will ship on 2 standard 48x40 pallets, 5 feet high and 1000 lb for the controller and 4 feet high and 3000 lb for the magnet. Vintage Davies Laboratory Rac-Lab Power Supply AC/DC/Voltmeter Repair or Parts
First. I'm no expert, so I'll tell you what I know about the unit, most of which you can see in the photos. The most prominent components are three meters, four transformers, two variable transformers, and a bank of selenium rectifiers. Someone rewired the AC and DC outputs to the front of the unit, not real difficult given all the space available. The DC meter works and seems accurate based on comparison with my Sperry meter. The AC variable transformer works because the Sperry measures its variations, but the power supply meter is not working. I did not test the voltmeter. The unit is reasonably clean and in overall decent cosmetic condition. Seems like it would make a fun project to restore and maybe upgrade the selenium rectifiers to current devices.
