PAiA Programmable Drum Set - Rare Vintage Analog Drum Machine
This auction is for a rare PAiA Programmable Drum Set vintage analog drum machine in good cosmetic and working condition. There are some blemishes from normal use. But nothing major. Please see the pictures for details. First the bad news. I couldn't program any meaningful rhythms. No matter what I tried. And I couldn't easily find a manual on the net, so I really don't know how this is supposed to work. After fooling around for a while, I did get a repeating Snare pattern with the"Score" switch in the number 2 position, but that's it. The good news is that just about everything else appears to work. Here's a rundown: 1. All the drum sounds work and the audio is clean. Plus there are internal trim pots on all the drums for tuning. The tuning also seems to affect envelope decay. So lower tunings make the drum ... morering out longer until it starts to oscillate. On the snare, there is an additional trim pot that changes the amount of snap in the attack. Additionally, you can remove the noise component of the snare altogether by not powering the noise circuit. More on this in a second. 2. All of the touch plate buttons appear to do something. With the exception of the"Rest" and"Repeat" buttons, presumably because they're related to pattern programming, which I couldn't figure out. All the drum buttons produce sound, and the"Reset" Bridge" and"Play" buttons each perform some kind of discernible action. The red"Program" button and the"Score" and"Save" switches all perform noticeable actions as well. I just couldn't get these to come together and make a pattern. Finally, the"Tempo" On/Off switch is working as it should. It should be noted that this drum machine can be fully powered by 4 AA batteries and one 9V battery(which powers the noise circuit for the snare) These batteries won't be included in the sale.
