This is a vintage Hewlett Packard HP-35 calculator in working order. Some key features of this model are: The serial number(as given in the battery compartment) is 1143A 55873. It has the well known. 2.02 bug(when raising e^ln(2.02) the answer is, incorrectly, 2) Also, I've noticed that 2^2 gives 3.999999999 and 3^3 gives 27.00000003 whereas the correct answers are obviously 3 and 27. Has the arc tan bug where arc tan of 1.00020002 gives 45 whereas the correct answer is 45.00572958. Has the trigonometric bug where ARC SIN(0.0002) gives 5.729577893-03 whereas correct answer is 0.01145916. It has a raised dot on the"5" key. Model number is not beside the"HewLett Packard" lettering and logo below the keyboard. The calculator does not seem to work using the AC adapter only(I am using it on a European power supply with ... morethe voltage setting switched to 230V on the adapter) But. Rare Vintage Hewlett-Packard Vacuum Tube HP 200C Audio Oscillator, circa 1950
Own a piece of H-P history! Maybe you can't have an original H-P 200A. But this unit comes close. The instrument up for auction is an H-P 200C. It is a later version of the design on which Bill Hewlett based his master's thesis. And the product that launched the Hewlett-Packard company. You can read about the original H-P 200A here: The H-P 200C covers the range 20 Hz to 200 kHz in four bands. I tested the unit with an oscilloscope and a frequency counter. It produces a nice sine wave. But the frequency calibration appears to be significantly wrong. For example, when set for 20, it produces about 15; when set for 200, it produces about 150. No attempt has been made by me to clean or restore the unit. Just from a cursory observation. The power cord, binding posts, 3 electrolytic capacitors, and the mounting feet are not original. Please ... morenote that the original binding posts are missing and a more modern pair have been installed in an alternate location. I have no idea why this may have been done. As the hole spacing for both sets is the standard ¾ inch. Here is a link to a 200C Operating Manual(with schematics and calibration instructions) Unfortunately. It is for serial numbers 50,000 and above(the unit up for auction is serial number A10333) but it should get you in the ballpark: The unit will be double-boxed for shipping.
