I turned the machine on and the lights came on and the sealer moved to the closed position when I pressed the foot pedal so it appears to be in working order. This sealer is on a stand and is waist high. We have used it daily for about 2-3 years and it has never broken or malfunctioned. We have never even had to replace the heating wire! It has been great. It has a time control and a light that illuminates when you step on the pedal- when the time is reached the light goes out so you know when to release the pedal.
