For sale is an Antique North Carolina Earthenware Wax Sealer Jar w/ Albany Slip Glaze circa 1840. The jar is about 7" tall and 5.25" in diameter. The jar was found when a barn was torn down in Burke County N.C. The barn was built in the 1840's according to the owner. The jar was under the floor boards near the steps. The jar does have a small chip on the base this reveals the earthenware structure and authenticates the age also. It weighs almost three pounds. Please examine the photos carefully. However in that this would have been nearly a hundred years ago it is hard to say exactly what it was used for at the old cannery. This is a remarkable. Vintage Champion hanging scale. There is no basket for this one, but use your own ideas to make it into what ever you want. This scale is in beautiful vintage condition with the original black and white paint, as you can see the face is very clear and free of rust or holes. The face has the original California Dept. of Agriculture Division of Weights and Measures- seals from 1928 and 1927. Chas. M. Fuller. Sealer. I think these are paper, but as you can see, still very clear to read. Capacity 20 lbs. is also printed on the face and this scale is still in working order. It is a very heavy scale. As a young person I had 100's of old bottles out on the roof of the house turning purple in the sun. Wax sealers were the primary canning jars before the use of glass became widespread. This wax sealer uses a smaller lid than usual. This wax sealer ihas a medium brown matte glaze. This wax sealer is approximately 6 5/8" tall. The bottom is approximately 4 3/4" in diameter and the groove on top is approximately 2 1/2" in diameter. This wax sealer has 0 cracks. Presented for your consideration is this superb French porcelain ink stand with bronze ormolu fittings. I have not identified the maker(any help appreciated) but feel it dates to the early nineteenth century. The boat shaped stand is fitted with two ink pots with original inserts. A sealer and receptacles for pens, nibs, wax and stamps. This piece is beautifully hand painted in a colorful overall floral design which is repeated on the lids and handle. The stand measures 3 1/2" high and 9" long. The bottom has an unusual red overglaze mark. The set is in very good estate condition with no damage or restorations found.
