Presented for auction is this Rare Vintage Brown& Sharp Mini Thread Micrometer! It has the traditional Brown& Sharpe Logo engraved in. I believe it is a number 150. But there are additional numbers on it. If someone knows for sure, I would appreciate E-mail. This appears to be a micrometer for measuring screw threads. The anvil comes to a"V" and rotates while the spindle is pointed. This is a used micrometer and does show some signs of wear. I think that it is accurate because when closed. With the point on the spindle touching the anvil, the thimble reads ZERO. There is a person’s name engraved into the frame. I think it could easily be removed with a stone if desired. Antique 1908/30"Thread Counting Micrometer" by Charles Lowinson/ A. Chronik The thread scale was used in the textile industry to measure the number of threads per inch in a sample of cloth. It has three scales. Once silvered, that rotate in the view of the eyepiece. The lever behind the eyepiece disengages the screw from the nut, allowing the carriage to be located any place along its travel. The base is 8.7 cm wide and 6.7 cm deep. The scale was made by Chronik Brothers of New York. And sold by Charles Lowinson of New York. The patent dates are Oct. 20, 1908 and Sept. 20, 1930. It was donated to the Greenslade Collection by Daniel Chaucer. Found in the original box. Micrometer is stamped along one area with the maker's name and Patent No. 1740970" Box measures 4-3/8"W x 3-1/4"H x 3-3/16"D. This is a Starrett groove and thread micrometer Caliper No.481-1" This little cutie is from the archives but very accurate and mechanically sound, smooth operating mechanism and just an all around gem of a tool. Obviously you can mic anything up to an inch with it but it is the perfect tool for measuring just what it was intended to, paint shows some fatigue but other than that it is a great little tool in super shape and a sweet addition to any real tool collection. This micrometer is used but appears to be taken good care of. The ratcheting thimble still works. The two lock mechanisim still works on the micrometer. The one lock allows you to lock the spindle while the other lock allows you to lock the anvil in place to calibrate the anvil. This is a nice unit.
