Good used condition ... morewith age. Wear, scratches, pings. Appears to be fully operational. The spare tip that is unmounted looks like it was a cone shape and has been cut or worn down. I attempted to show a picture of the indicator reading the speed of a running motor. I was using a foot operated speed control pedal to keep the motor speed low. I don't know if it was accurate. It was hard to get the shot with one hand on the camera, one hand operating the indicator and a foot controlling the speed. When I bought it there was a dried, crumbling foam pad stuck on a plastic piece that holds the instruction sheet. It was shedding, so I removed it and installed a new piece of rubber foam in it place. It should do the same job the original foam did and help protect the dial bezel. No motor or foot operated speed control pedal is included in this auction I do offer the motor in another auction, if you are interested.

ANTIQUE VICTORIAN 1876 Woodman's Tachometer / Speed Indicator / Revolution Gauge
ANTIQUE VICTORIAN 1876 Woodman's Tachometer/ Speed Indicator/ Revolution Gauge The text stamped on the face of this item reads. WOODMAN'S Patent Sept 12, 1876. There are numbers stamped on the dial that go from 10 to 100. When the point of this gauge is placed on the center of a shaft or the center of a wheel it drives a worm gear that turns the dial. Using a clock with a second hand one could determine the revolutions per minute while watching both this gauge and the clock or stopwatch. Today's tachometers have the two functions combined so that the read-out comes in revolutions per minutre or per second. So no one would use this gauge today except as a collector's item. The other outstanding thing about this item is that the ornate design on both sides of the handle and on the back side are very much in the style of Victorian ... moredesign; and. Of course, the manufacture of this item in 1876 places it in the middle of the Victorian period. This little 3 1/2" gauge is in very good condition. This gauge still works. A small amount of the nickle plating has come off. I did not spend a lot of time to clean this item up; so when the crevises are all cleaned out of the Victorian design. Flat, convex, concave, fit on end of input shaft and adapt to the end of almost any rotating machinery shaft. Revolutions are counted over a timed interval for converting to RPM. Big Lot 3-speed Hub Indicator Chains, Sturmey Archer Grips, Cable Anchorage MORE
The 9 indicator chains are new. They are Sturmey Archer compatible but I don't know the brand. The grips are from Sturmey Archer and are marked Made in England near the open ends. They are typicaly used as the left side grip when paired with a Sturmey Archer 3-speed twist grip shifter. I think they may be new but they are shop worn. Have smudges, and 1 has some ink marks on it. I believe the 2 cable anchorage connectors are Sturmey Archer. They have a little corrosion on them but are useable.
