This caliper can be used with one hand through operating the fine adjustment roll with the thumb. The lock screw locks the dial bezel and holds the sliding jaw in position. The depth rod is integrated into the rack of the caliper, unlike many calipers which offer a detachable depth rod, or none at all. The hardened stainless steel components. Metal is typically initially cleaned using mineral oil. Or a weak solution of washing soda and water and if necessary brief electrolysis to remove and or convert rust to black oxide. Whichever method is best, a scotch brite plastic cleaning pad is used with water so the underlying metal is not damaged. A heat gun is immediately used to blow dry and eliminate moisture which is followed by a hand rubbed coat of mineral oil. After letting the oil“soak in” for a day or so, the item is wiped cleaned then hand rub in bees wax to seal it. A weak solution of oil soap and water is used to remove grime, old oils and dirt from wood which is air or blowed dry with a heat gun. This is followed by a hand rub of“feed and wax" If the situation requires it, a soft brass bristle brush or“0000” steel wool is ocassionaly used. It should be noted that tools and items are not conditioned for use such as sharpening, tightening or replacement of parts. up for auction is a set of starrett 12 inch dial calipers. this set has the large jaws which measures 4 inches from the top of the calipers and 3 inches from the inside of the caliper jaws. they are in very nice condition with no mechanical problems. they measure as they should at any position. these were bought brand new from my father and then given to me when I started my apprenticeship in 2005. they have always been taken care of. never dropped that I know of. I don't really want to sell these but I have come into a situation where I need money more than extra tools laying around. my misfortune is a big gain for someone else. happy bidding!

Starrett Dial Caliper No.120 Vintage Tool in Excellent Working Shape
Hello all! This listing is for a Starrett Dial Caliper/Micrometer. Model 120. It measures 0-6" with very precise dial graduations.1 revolution of needle=0.1" and shows measurements down to the 0.001" It's thumb-operated fine adjustment roll allows for one-handed operation. A lock screw holds the slide in place to ensure consistent measurements. It features knife-edge contacts that allow for both OD and ID measurements. This tool is used and its case shows some wear.
