Whichever method is best, a scotch brite plastic cleaning pad is used with water so the underlying metal is not damaged. A heat gun is immediately used to blow dry and eliminate moisture which is followed by a hand rubbed coat of mineral oil. After letting the oil“soak in” for a day or so, the item is wiped cleaned then hand rub in bees wax to seal it. A weak solution of oil soap and water is used to remove grime, old oils and dirt from wood which is air or blowed dry with a heat gun. This is followed by a hand rub of“feed and wax" If the situation requires it, a soft brass bristle brush or“0000” steel wool is ocassionaly used.
