Gentleman I bought this from. Spent much of his professional life working on the tailpipes of jet engines for GE. I don't think they have seen a lot of use, as I bought his set of work calipers and a third set, yet to be listed, one only needs so many of these things. Anyway, both pieces are mechanically perfect, perfectly smooth, carbide faces on calipers are perfectly smooth. Note some spotting on the back side of the pieces from sitting in the case so long, not sure how much it will clean off, no sure if you'd need to, but as is, as found. up for auction is a set of starrett 12 inch dial calipers. this set has the large jaws which measures 4 inches from the top of the calipers and 3 inches from the inside of the caliper jaws. they are in very nice condition with no mechanical problems. they measure as they should at any position. these were bought brand new from my father and then given to me when I started my apprenticeship in 2005. they have always been taken care of. never dropped that I know of. I don't really want to sell these but I have come into a situation where I need money more than extra tools laying around. my misfortune is a big gain for someone else. happy bidding!

Excellent working condition. No burrs, or anything else to hinder the performance of this precise measuring tool. The back of the caliper has a small area of slight pitting where is contacted the felt pad in the box, and minor little scratches here and there from normal wear. There is a very superficial scratch on the plastic dial face on the bottom of the dial between the 0 and 10, but not enough to hinder reading of the dial. There are two places where the name of the machinist is written.The end label on the box is intact. I see no damage to the box and the closures work perfectly. Please check the pictures.
