Armstrong #54 Precision Back Gauge For Measuring Cord Height on Band Saw Blades
Up for bid is this Armstrong# 54 precision back gauge. This was the older model back gauge later replaced by the# 76. It is 36" long. I didn't know what it was used for until looking it up on the net. I found out band saw back gauges measure the chord height(distance from the center of an arc to a straight edge) over a set distance. If you Google#76 armstrong back gauge it shows what it does and how to calibrate. This back gauge appears to be in very good condition. The only thing I can see wrong is no glass over the Starrett dial. The dial still works properly. See pictures and bid accordingly.

Up For auction is very nice looking and working 18" LS Starrett 1979 Digi Chek height gauge Grad units.0001 Cat No 258.Total range is.100 to 18" This one is in real good shape never ever knocked around or tipped over. The black Starrett krinkle finish paint is super really nice on this one. It was well taken of and used in a small aerospace company that makes part for Boeing commercial airliner and GE Medical. The top massive aluminum spin dial is smooth with the counter. No rust on the dial or dents. This one works really well and is complete with step height gauge block. A adjusting wrench to calibrate is included inside in the back. The feet are mint and the unit is very stable and clean for its age. There is very minor surface oxidation on the very bottom underneath base where the feet are. This is very common on these because ... moreof the limited space between the feet and base itself. This one has been used for the last 30 years in a temperature controlled environment and is a very reliable measuring instrument. The counter is very accurate also. Glass and number indicator are not cracked or scratched! Every number in scale is mint and so are the scales on either side. All block grooves will take block either way. PLEASE LOOK AT THE PICTURES BEFORE BIDDING. I tried to take as many pictures as I could. +/0001 graduation dimension on wheel. Scales on either side of the gauge blocks read to the nearest inch. The digital readout gives the thousandths reading and the final ten thousandths of an inch is read from the micrometer head. Super heavy unit for sure at 56 lbs very heavy and well made by LS. The gauge sticks sometimes when it bottoms or tops out. I don't know what the problem is, I'm not an expert.
