I bought this set new in 1999 and have only used it maybe 15 times total for building engines, since I have 3 other depth micrometers. I last had it calibrated in 2000 by Mobile Laboratories metrology and I've only used it maybe 10 times since. I've never even fitted the 2-6" measuring rods. It has no owner engravings, marks or dings and has never been dropped. The wood case has no marks, dings or writing. The discoloration on the thimble is not rust, it is stain from the wood box that has rubbed off. I have this listed locally so I may end auction early.

Complete set in above average condition. I have tested the mic for functionality and it is working as it should. It shuts off automatically after approx a half hour and turns back on with the smallest movement of the thimble. When it comes back on, it remembers it's position. The inch to mm conversion is working as well as the zero/abs and hold buttons. The mic is really clean with no engravings on it or other personal markings. The biggest issue I could find was some very light pitting on the back side of the base in a couple of spots(zoom in pic 7) It's nothing major. But must be mentioned. The rods are in really good shape and a few look new with perfect ... moremeasuring faces. I haven't checked the rods for calibration, so they may or may not need adjustment, but the adjustment wrench is included. The case is clean& shiny with the interior completely intact to protect the set. There is a battery installed in the mic and I'm also including a extra brand new one to keep you going(I don't believe in that no batteries included nonsense you get with most sellers) I have found that only the Renata CR2450N batteries will fit these mics properly. Other brands don't allow the cover to screw in correctly. Overall. this is a great set and at my starting price, it could turn out to be a awesome deal. Don't miss out on this! The LS Starrett Co.Athol Mass USA No.440 depth micrometer with 7 rods and case. This item is from my brother-in-laws estate who was a machinist that worked on the space shuttle program for NASA. As with most of his tools there is a name lightly inscribed on the surface of the tool and his name written on the top of the case with a black permanent marker. The inscription on the tool could be buffed out but other than that it seems to be in good working order. I accept payment by Paypal only and expect the winning bidder to submit payment within 48 hours of the end of this auction. Used L. S. Starrett Company Depth Gage Micrometer NO. 445 in Red Box
This used item came out my brother's estate and I'm not too familiar with this item as he worked numerous jobs when he was alive so assuming this was some of the equiptment he used on his jobs. The case looks to be covered with red material over a metal base material and has damage of some kind to the case front. Back and sides and has a musty wet smell so item could have been out in a old barn or down in a wet basement, but the inside looks good. I took some of the rods out and did find a bit of rust on a couple of them and the rods feel like they might be stainless steel, but can't be sure. I would imagine someone could take a little steel wool and clean the rust off. I tried to take pictures of all sides of the metal box and the interior so you could see the condition of the item being listed. Item is being"SOLD AS IS" ... moreI hate to throw something away that can still be used by someone else. Hopefull someone can use this instead of me throwing it away. Brown and Sharpe 607 Depth Micrometer and Starrett 124-A Inside Micrometer
This is a combo set of a Brown& Sharpe 607 depth micrometer(without extension rods) and a L.S. Starrett 124-A inside micrometer(with several extension rods. Comes in a really cool old wooden box. Both have plenty of signs of normal wear for vintage tools. But are in good, usable shape. They function smoothly, just as they should. Extension rods have the initials"W.G. etched into them. Box is not original to either device. Rather it belonged to a Lufkin micrometer at one time. I think I like the box more than the tools in it. If you have any questions. Don't hesitate to ask.
