Early Brown And Sharpe Combination Square, Center Head, Protractor, 1925, Tools
Thank you for viewing this item. This listing is for an early Brown& Sharpe Combination Square with a protractor and a center head. Stamped"Brown& Sharpe Mfg. Co Providence. RI, USA" Hardened" Pat March 10, 1925" A few of these stamps appear in two places on the tool. Has a 12 inch ruler. Has 90 degrees to 0 to 90 degrees the other way- 180 degree rotation. Also has small green level that works. Very nice black finish. It's worn in a few spots. But 90% there. A very few minor pitting spots along the ruler. But, this tool has been taken care of. It is in nice shape for how early it is. Please note: The main square part is a little tough to slide on the rule. It fits on/is proper for the piece/does move.but it takes a little force. I am thinking the sliding part may just need to be disassembled and cleaned or ... moreoiled. As I don't see evidence of anything wrong with it. Just wanted to point out that it may need to be seated in the grove and it does not slide smoothly. The other parts(protractor, center head) all slide just fine. Very nice early Brown& Sharpe tool. This is a used Brown and Sharpe machinist's square. It was made in Providence. RI. It comes in a nice wooden case with a latch. The square shows very little signs of use. The box show some normal signs of use. The number'542' is stamped on the square near the manufacturer's name. I'm not sure if it is a serial number or a model number.

This auction consists of a Brown& Sharpe tempered#4 steel rule paired with a Tumico hardened sliding square. The rule has a blem on one end. Which can be seen in the photo. It doesn’t affect the use of the tool, but I wanted to point it out anyway. Also there are some previous owner’s markings on the rule. The square head is in good condition. It is a Tomico brand and it is stamped with the word“Hardened” on one side. The leveling vial is good. See the photos for more detail. It is the tool you will receive.

Especially in light of the poor quality of"user" squares on the market today. Sure, those fancy rosewood and brass squares down at the woodworking store are a delight to hold but you can never trust them after they have inevitably been dropped. And I have taken more than one square straight back to the store when it failed to pass my initial"Standard" test. While you can often"bump" a damaged square back into pretty good alignment, you need a"Standard" square like this one to test it against. ... moreProblem is that not too many woodworkers have one of these big and fine machinist squares, since the current retail price of a square of this size and quality is in the $300 range. But here is a great vintage example with no reserve and an opening price that is a small fraction of that. It is in overall very fine condition with no damage of any sort. The square is in bright& shiny condition. there is only a couple of small stains on the metal. There is no damage. And the bubble and scribe are fine and present. The box it in good solid condition. Combination Square with a 12" Starrett No. 16R Grad. Hardened Scale and a Brown& Sharp Square Head. The scale does show signs of patina and age but may clean up easily in some rustaway. It is mostly still readable and there is no pitting. Just needs a good cleaning. The Square Head is a Brown& Sharpe and though it is nit stamped it is easily identified by its design. The square locks tightly to the scale and the level is in good working condition. The scribe is missing. These tools are from my Husband's machinists tools and I have many more tools listed.
