Rare Small Darling Brown & Sharpe Vernier Caliper plus Another by Brown & Sharpe
Here we have a pair of antique machinist's calipers. The first is a fairly rare tiny caliper made by Darling Brown& Sharpe. It is definitely a 19th Century tool and total length is 3& 5/8 inches long with a measuring capacity of about 1& 1/2 inches. It has no initials or other engraving, but there are some light score marks on the main blade as you can see in the photos. The second piece is a larger caliper signed Brown& Sharpe Mfg Company, and is is a combined caliper and sheet metal thickness gage. This one has some areas of light to moderate pitting, but no added initials or engraving. Some very fine grit finishing paper would likely make this look much nicer without affecting the graduations. I believe this is for a Brown and Sharpe 575 26" caliper as the calibration sticker from 98' says this info. The box is in good used/vintage condition. I have had it for about ten years. It measures 30 3/4" x 5 1/4" x 2 1/8" All hardware is there but the front lock. on the front latches the plating is peeling and on the back hinges plating is wearing away a bit. but cigarette collectors item or a perfectly fine usable box for your caliper without one. Very good complete set of vintage Brown& Sharpe No 55 3-6" Micrometer Caliper set in the wood box. Used but in decent condition with very little wear and tear. Set includes the large No 55 micrometer with ratchet handle, four anvils and four standards for precision measuring(key also included) All pieces in nice shape, some having lite discoloration and scratching, none that would effect the use of the tool. The box shows lots of shop wear including a small chip off one back side edge, as well as some staining all over but it is sturdy and protects the set nicely. Hard to find set. Thanks for looking.

Marked No. 59, in great condition. This tool belonged to my dad. Who was a sheet metal mechanic for the U.S. Coast Guard Yard. He's been retired for 30 years.
